Important end of support notice from Indramat for W+D machines

As we announced in our December 2009  Service Newsletter the service ability of the drive system DIAX03 for spare parts and repairs will end December 31st, 2013, due to a discontinuation by our sub-supplier Bosch Rexroth/Indramat.

Today we would like to inform you of two possible options which will guarantee the availability of service parts and support beyond 2013.

1. Extend service by five years with overhauled drive components

In this case the service ability for drive parts is guaranteed up to the year 2018. Exchange your existing drive components with overhauled components, which carry a 12 month warranty. The cost will depend on the number of drive parts to be replaced in your machine. The time required for the complete product overhaul is approx. 3-4 working days, carried out by a W+D electrical service technician.

2.  Modification of the complete machine to the latest drive generation, Indradrive

All drive control units and motors will be replaced by the latest drive technology which will guarantee service ability up to approx. 2030. Some other components in the switch cabinet will also be exchanged. This will assure the availability and quality of your production lines and furthermore your production will be well-planned.

W+D has established a special task force for this critical service issue.  Our objective with the task force is to develop an optimal solution for each affected machine that best fits your companies long term strategy with the equipment.  All customers affected by this change will receive a personal letter. Click here for a first overview of the machines and components.

Expert online now gives you around the clock support  for your W+D machines

For more than 12 years Winkler+Dünnebier has offered its customers a remote maintenance system based on analog modem technology to solve small and big problems on W+D machines. The analog modem technology has become outdated over the past few years. For this reason, the remote maintenance system Expert Online was developed. Since 2008, this new remote system has become standard equipment on new machine deliveries.

Effective January 1, 2010 analog modems will no longer be delivered. Existing analog modems in the field however , will be supported by W+D. On all new orders analog modems will be replaced by routers at the same cost. You will need only a high-speed internet connection in lieu of the analog telephone line.

What are the benefits of using the Expert Online?

Due to a more stable and quicker connection quality with the new internet based remote maintenance system online, help can be provided as soon as the machine is down. Thus expensive downtimes are reduced and minimized by reduced service hours. We recommend linking all relevant machines to the Expert Online for more advantages.
This provides the possibility to use Expert Online for inspection, machine and operating data collection as well as a comprehensive communication platform for web conferencing between you and our service team.

With Expert Online, we rely on modern technology for the future. We will continue supporting the existing modems, but the charges will be higher when using the modem solution.

New jam detection upgrade for obsolete models

The control modules and components on the circuit boards of the original jam detection system are no longer available. For this reason, W+D has developed a new jam detection control unit with a fast PLC for W+D machine types 102, 202, 249 and 527. This system is compatible with the older electronic control system of your machine and it operates on the known "cycle-gap" theory of operation, meaning that with each machine cycle the sequence envelope-gap-envelope is scanned. Therefore, there is no need for adjustments of the control unit after a size change.

The benefits of the newly developed control unit include:
  •  Ensuring production
  •  Reverse compatibility with older machine types
  •  Indication of a detailed error message on the display
  •  No adjustment of the control unit after a size change due to "cycle-gap operation"
  •  Reduced non-operation periods during size change
To order this new control unit or to get a TIP sales sheet please contact call us at 913.492.9880 or email us at sales@wdmachinery.com . We would also be pleased to submit to you a detailed quotation based on your machine serial number.
