Greetings!

"Relationships are all there is. Everything in the universe only exists because it is in relationship to everything else. Nothing exists in isolation. We have to stop pretending we are individuals that can go it alone." Margaret Wheatley, Turning to One Another

With the above quote in mind, we're introducing a new peer group to foster relationships with a certain sector of the business population we serve, the consultant. Read below about the Consultant Connection Peer Networking Group. I hope you can join us on January 27th!

The BSC in conjunction with SCORE are happy to report the following impacts since July of 2008:  236 new clients counseled, 201 full-time and 15 part-time jobs retained, 27 jobs created, 22 business starts, 3 businesses saved, 2 business expansions and 7 loans secured for a total of more than $250,000. We have spotlighted 5 of the 22 new business starts. Please support them as well as our partners listed in the left hand column who have made these services possible.

We've also been busy championing youth entreprneurship at teacher meetings, in classrooms and at career fairs.  The dates have been set for Camp e3, so consider sponsoring a youth scholarship and read more about the Dorm Room Start-up Panel discussion. Give us a call and we'll be happy to bring e-education to your school.

European Donors Offer Support to Help Charities Become More Entrepreneurial

Venture philanthropy is taking root in Europe as wealthy donors seek to maximize their impact in a time of declining charity spending, The Wall Street Journal reports. Experts expect overall giving in Europe to mirror the sharp drop this year in the United States. Many donors who remain active are turning from outright gifts to loans and other investments and encouraging charities to become more open and entrepreneurial.

"Since the credit crisis, we've seen more philanthropists turning to alternative ways of helping charities, notably through specialist finance in providing the capital to fund loans to charities," said Mike Packman, head of private clients, enterprise and philanthropy at the U.K.-based Charities Aid Foundation.
