Celebrating Texas Girls
Secretary Andrade For 25 years, Girl Scouts has selected an outstanding woman and dedicated community leader who embodies the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and has presented her with the Trefoil Award. On Thursday, September 20, 2012, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas will honor Secretary of State Esperanza "Hope" Andrade, in recognition of her lifelong achievements, particularly her contributions to the community.

Secretary Andrade is Texas' 107th Secretary of State and one of six state officials to form the Executive Department of the State of Texas. Governor Rick Perry appointed Secretary Andrade as the first Latina Secretary of State, swearing her into office on July 23, 2008. Prior to serving in state office, Secretary Andrade was a successful entrepreneur and leader in the San Antonio business community for more than three decades. She resides in San Antonio with her husband of 43 years, and has a son, a daughter-in-law and three grandsons.

Secretary Andrade is truly deserving of this honor for the impact she has had on our community. She embodies the Girl Scout Mission, and through her countless endeavors she has made our world a better place. We invite you to attend Trefoil 2012 to advance the mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character -- girls who can grow up to be just like Secretary Andrade!
