Summer of the Girl Guide --
Coming Soon!

Thank you for your patience as the Summer of the Girl Guide, your 2012 camp guide, is produced. It's taking a bit longer to produce this year, and we apologize for any frustration. However, you will be happy to know the reason for the delay is that each Girl Scout household will be mailed a copy of the guide. This is the first time in more than five years that it has been printed and mailed.

Expect your Summer of the Girl Guide to arrive in mailboxes early March.

Go Retro -- Change that Photo!
Calling all Girl Scouts! For the month of March, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas is asking all alumnae to change their Facebook profile pictures to a photo of them as a young Girl Scout in uniform.

It's finally here -- 100 years ago this month, Juliette Gordon Low placed a phone call to a friend, declaring, "I've got something for the girls of Savannah, and all of America, and all the world, and we're going to start it tonight!" That evening, she gathered 18 girls to register the first troop of Girl Scouts. The rest, as they say, is history.

Join the Celebration!100th Trefoil

Competition & STEM Program Opportunity
for Girls

2012 National STEM Video Game Challenge Girl Scouts of the USA is proud to be an outreach partner with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop and E-Line Media to introduce the second annual National STEM Video Game Challenge open to Girl Scouts! This challenge invites game makers to show their passion for playing and making video games and aims to motivate children's interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Up for grabs is almost $200,000 in cash and prizes, with multiple ways to win! The entry period is open through March 12. Finalists will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges and winners will be announced in the spring of 2012 at a major public event.

For more information on how Girl Scouts can enter the Youth Prize competition (middle school & high school) look here!

Challenges like this support Girl Scouts' already strong commitment to STEM activities that are relevant to everyday life. Whether they're discovering how a car's engine runs, becoming math whizzes, or learning about careers in STEM fields, girls are moving forward into the future. Please look here for more information on all of our science offerings.

This challenge also complements the Entertainment Technology Badge, where girls can dig into video game development! If you have girls earning this badge, encourage them to enter the STEM Video Challenge as well!
Website Redesign in the Works
It's no longer good enough to have a static website -- it must evolve as technologies change, as well as when peoples' needs change. GSSWT realizes its website needs continuous improvement to capture your attention, have new information, and engage you. Therefore, we invite you to give us your feedback as we embark on the journey to the website redesign.

In a perfect world, what would you like to see added to the website? What are the successes of the current site? What are the failures? Provide your feedback now.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your input, it is most appreciated.

Girl Scouts Do Great Things!
Gamma Sigma Girls Volunteer with
Habitat for Humanity

On Friday, February 10, 130 Gamma Sigma Girls from four SAISD high schools (Lanier HS, Highlands HS, Young Women's Leadership Academy and Fox Tech HS) volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio.

Gamma Sigma Girls painted, tiled, and placed the finishing touches on six homes at Coleman Ridge. "When I heard over 100 high school girls were coming out to help us, I knew these girls had to be something incredible! They've truly been a great help out here today," said one Habitat for Humanity staff member.
