Here you'll find timely information about programs, adult learning opportunities, and other general news to keep you connected to GSSWT! Volunteer Connection will be sent weekly every Friday. Stay in the know and keep an eye on your inbox for great Girl Scout information!
Who Will You Nominate?
Have you received excellent service from a GSSWT staff member? Then nominate them for the Recognizing Excellence Staff Award.

Up to six staff members may be recognized each quarter in one of the following categories: customer service, commitment, flexibility, teamwork, leadership, and creativity and innovation.
 
Nominations from staff and volunteers for the fourth quarter will be accepted through Friday, December 23 for awards presented in January 2012. A group of board members will select the award recipients each quarter. At the end of the year, one staff member will be selected as GSSWT's Best of the Best.

GSSWT Office Closed Dates  
For the winter holidays, offices -- including the Girl Scout Shop and Resource Center -- will be closed beginning Monday, December 26 and will reopen Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

Here are additional dates that all offices will be closed:
  • Wednesday, January 11 -- Staff Development Meeting
  • Monday, January 16 -- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Free Tickets to the
U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Free tickets are first-come first-served.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school football game in the country and will be held in San Antonio at the Alamodome Saturday, January 7. The bowl features the nation's most elite football players and marching band musicians, and has honored more than 1,000 Army Strong Soldier Heroes since its inception.

BIGGER and BETTER than Ever!
2012 SeaWorld San Antonio Cookie Rally

Grab the family and join GSSWT at SeaWorld San Antonio for the 2012 Cookie Rally on Saturday, January 21 -- it's going to be bigger and better than ever!


The fun kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with an interactive tailgating party with stations of all types -- including the newest patch initiatives by H-E-B (Healthy Living), CPS Energy (Environmental Awareness), Valero Energy Corporation (STEM), Rackspace Hosting (Girls & Technology), and Wells Fargo (Financial Literacy) -- and girls will earn the patches that day!

Once the park opens at 11:00 a.m. -- exclusively for GSSWT -- enjoy three shows, two rides (Steel Eel and Great White), game center (sorry, no prizes -- just fun!), and much, much more until 3:00 p.m. Cost is $12/person ages 2+. New this year is an all-you-can-eat buffet of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies, and drinks for an additional $12/person.

Volunteer Recognitions -- deadline January 31

Have you been waiting to nominate that amazing volunteer in your service unit? Here's your chance! Board-approved awards are the perfect way to show your appreciation and to give thanks to your fellow volunteers.

 

Awards include Girl Scout Volunteer Achievement Award, Thanks Badge, Community Partner Award, and more -- see the entire list here.

 

Nomination forms are due to the Adult Development Department by Tuesday, January 31. Forms may be mailed, faxed, or delivered to council.

First-ever Girl Scout Day at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo -- Sun., Feb. 12

Are you ready to rodeo Girl Scout style?! Gather up the young'uns, don yur jeans, boots,and hats and head on down to the
San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo for the first-ever Girl Scout Day Sunday, February 12! 


Experience this long-standing San Antonio tradition with a Girl Scout scavenger hunt on the rodeo grounds and explore the many educational exhibits such as the Rodeo Hall of Fame, Animal Adventures, Little Hands on the Farm, and the Horse Education Building. Y'all will even earn yourself a commemorative rodeo patch!

 

Cost is $13/person ages 3+ (young'uns 2 and under are free) and includes admission, rodeo performance ticket, and the patch. No worries y'all, the concert is a family-friendly show featurin' Hot Chelle Rae after the rodeo performance. Grounds open at 9:00 a.m. and the show begins at 1:00 p.m.

San Antonio
