Holiday Mail for HeroesThe holiday season is just around the corner and it's time again to start thinking about being part of the 2011 American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes. For the fifth year, American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes are partnering to ensure all Americans have an opportunity to send warm wishes this holiday season to members of our U.S. military, veterans and their families -- many of whom will be far away from home this holiday season. The process is very simple and takes no time at all to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the U.S. Armed Forces make to protect our freedoms. The Holiday Mail for Heroes mailbox is open and ready for your cards (deadline is Friday, December 9): Holiday Mail For Heroes P.O. Box 5456 Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456 Sending a "touch of home" to American men and women who serve our country is the perfect way to express your appreciation and support during the holiday season. If you want more information on this program, please call 210-224-5151 or visit the American Red Cross website.

Love Camp? Tell Us Why! | |
Do you love our camps La Jita and Mira Sol? Thousands of girls from across the region have enjoyed countless opportunities and have fond memories of their time spent swimming the Sabinal River or haunting the forests of Mira Sol. This is your chance to Tell Us! why you love our camps. Several quotes from both girls and adult volunteers will be selected as a feature of the new interior design of the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center, scheduled to be complete by December 31, 2011.
Tell Us! why you love our camps by visiting our council website. Be sure to mention which camp you love and leave your name and grade level (if a girl member). Quotes will be accepted and considered for placement in the leadership center through November 30.

More than 300 girls raised their right hands and recited the Girl Scout Promise, 10 lit candles that represented their high schools, not with an old-fashioned wick, but with the flick of a switch. Read the entire story here.
