Holiday Mail for Heroes

The holiday season is just around the corner and it's time again to start thinking about being part of the 2011 American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes. For the fifth year, American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes are partnering to ensure all Americans have an opportunity to send warm wishes this holiday season to members of our U.S. military, veterans and their families -- many of whom will be far away from home this holiday season.

The process is very simple and takes no time at all to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the U.S. Armed Forces make to protect our freedoms.

The Holiday Mail for Heroes mailbox is open and ready for your cards (deadline is Friday, December 9):

Holiday Mail For Heroes

P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

Sending a "touch of home" to American men and women who serve our country is the perfect way to express your appreciation and support during the holiday season. If you want more information on this program, please call 210-224-5151 or visit the American Red Cross website.

Let's Get Loud!
If you're a Girl Scout and you have talent,
come on and show it!

GSSWT is searching for girls to be part of the Girls Rock Tour to perform at the 2012 SeaWorld San Antonio Cookie Rally.

If you love to sing and dance, and have musical talent, we want to see you shine! This opportunity is open to all registered Girl Scouts. Click here for more details and submission form! Submissions are due no later than Monday, December 12.

Power of One You can make a difference!

Each one of us is powerful and unique. Think of all that can happen if you just add one more individual into a group. Every registered girl who brings a new girl member to an event between November 1 and December 31, 2011 will earn a Power of One Patch for herself and her friend.

Love Camp?
Tell Us Why!
Do you love our camps La Jita and Mira Sol? Thousands of girls from across the region have enjoyed countless opportunities and have fond memories of their time spent swimming the Sabinal River or haunting the forests of Mira Sol. This is your chance to Tell Us! why you love our camps. Several quotes from both girls and adult volunteers will be selected as a feature of the new interior design of the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center, scheduled to be complete by December 31, 2011.

Tell Us! why you love our camps by visiting our council website. Be sure to mention which camp you love and leave your name and grade level (if a girl member). Quotes will be accepted and considered for placement in the leadership center through November 30.

Start collecting your Capri Sun or Honest Kids drink pouches and for every pouch collected, TerraCycle will donate 2 cents to GSSWT for the 2012 Forever Green projects. Girl Scouts Do Great Things

The following Girl Scouts are headed for the gold ... the Girl Scout Gold Award that is!

Kati DeHaven

Mission Romania: Romanian Bus

Girl Scout Ambassador Kati DeHaven has grand plans for her Gold Award Take Action project! She's purchasing a multi-passenger vehicle for use by the First United Methodist Association of Romania. There are two ways you can help Kati:

1:1 Challenge
Every Girl Scout member is invited to connect with the project by making a $1 donation.

What can a $1 do? $1 = bottle of water, $1 = burger/fries, $1 x each GSSWT member = more than enough for the people of Romania to enjoy church as a family!

Check out the Facebook Cause page for more information.

Donations are tax deductible and can be sent to Canyon Lake UMC, 206 Flintstone Drive, Canyon Lake, TX 78133 (make checks payable to CLUMC with memo as Romanian Bus).

Progressive Dinner
For $75/person, enjoy a journey around San Antonio along with a three-course meal served progressive-style aboard the Lion & Rose Double Decker Bus! This fantastic fundraiser will take place Saturday, November 19 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. -- park at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center, boarding will begin at 4:45 p.m.

Only 45 tickets will be sold -- reserve your seat today!

Maggie White

Scout Out a Scout!

Girl Scout Ambassador Maggie White developed the Scout Out a Scout program for her Gold Award Take Action project. The program connects Girl Scout Ambassadors/Seniors with Junior/ Cadette troops to celebrate the fun, friends and fantastic opportunities that Girl Scouts offer!

Scout Out a Scout provides guidelines and a PowerPoint template for Girl Scout Ambassador troops to follow so they can personalize and implement their own encouraging stories when meeting with younger girls in Junior and Cadette troops.
