Congratulations Suzanne Goudge,
Trefoil 2011 Honoree
On Thursday, September 22, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas (GSSWT) honored outstanding female Suzanne Goudge at its annual Trefoil Award luncheon. Also unveiled were initiatives to educate girls in the areas of environmental awareness, healthy living, girls and technology, STEM and financial literacy with five of the nation's leading businesses. The event is GSSWT's largest special event and raised a record-breaking $283,000 for the organization.
For 24 years, GSSWT has presented the Trefoil Award annually to an outstanding woman who has achieved success in her field of endeavor and is a positive role model to young women. Trefoil 2011 honored business and community leader, Suzanne Goudge. The event was chaired by Nancy Loeffler and Teri Wenglein-Callender with support of honorary chairs Charline and Red McCombs.
With a combined contribution of $150,000 to Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, CPS Energy
, Rackspace Hosting
, Valero Energy Corporation
and Wells Fargo
have taken the lead in supporting patch programs in each company's area of expertise.
For today's girls, reversing environmental threats and improving quality of life will be the work of their generation. CPS Energy's Environmental Awareness and Energy Conservation Initiative
combines environmental education and community action on a regional scale.
Girl Scout programs recognize that physical health, emotional health, and self-esteem are all connected. To further support the "whole girl," H-E-B's Healthy Living Initiative
will give girls the skills they need to keep their bodies healthy, their minds engaged and their spirits alive.
At an age where a pulse on technological advancement defines us, Rackspace Hosting's Girls and Technology Initiative
will give girls an opportunity to envision ways they can create a career out of their tech interests and push the outer limits of what's possible in the realm of technology, design, and innovation.Valero Energy Corporation's STEM Initiative
(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) focuses on what girls need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. The nation's need for STEM professionals is ever-growing, and Valero's STEM Initiative will encourage girls to push boundaries, test limits and look at the world through inquisitive eyes.
Soon 90 percent of all women will have to be financially self-sufficient. The Wells Fargo Financial Literacy Initiative
teaches today's young entrepreneurs vital life skills, such as setting goals, budgeting, and saving.
