the 2011-2012 PR Team
Girls age 5-17 with bright personalities are needed to help represent our organization throughout its 21-county jurisdiction as part of the council's Public Relations (PR) Team. Are you interested in telling others in your community how great Girl Scouts is? If so, applications for the 2011-2012 PR Team will be accepted beginning July 15 through August 15. Current members of the PR Team do not need to re-apply (to check your PR Team status, contact Stephanie Finleon). Applicants for the PR Team should be articulate, outgoing, willing to be called with very short notice, and have access to transportation to and from events. Girls with musical talent (e.g., singing, piano, etc.) are also encouraged to apply. To apply, a parent/guardian must complete the 2011-2012 PR Team Application, available online through August 15. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered until the next membership year. Following the application deadline, girls and their parent/guardian will be contacted for a short photo shoot and mock interview. Get outside and play this summer -- join Coca-Cola Wednesday, July 20 at Mission San Jos� ( 6701 San Jos� Drive, San Antonio, 78214) as they present a $10,000 grant to the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Girls in Motion Dance Team Needs a Cheer Team -- July 23 The Girls in Motion dance team would like you to join in the excitement -- cheer them on at their final performance this summer at the WNBA All-Star pre-game show Saturday, July 23. Be Fit! Be Fun! with Girl Scouts -- July 25 Come out for a day of fun with Girl Scouts from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Monday, July 25 at the Kenedy City Auditorium ( 303 W. Main Street, Kenedy, 78119). This event is FREE to all girls in grades K-12th residing in Karnes county. You do not need to be a currently registered Girl Scout to participate. Bring a sack lunch and come expecting fun! Please RSVP by Thursday, July 21 to Annalissa Franco (210-349-2404/1-800-580-7247 ext. 252). Volunteer opportunities available. Green City Robotics Camp -- July 25-29 Girls ages 9 to 14 will have tons of fun using the innovative Lego Mindstorms NXT Robotics system and computers to design, build and program robots from the ground up! Girls will also earn the CPS Energy Environmental Awareness Patch! Green City Robotics Camp will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29 at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center. Girls will need to bring a lunch and water bottle each day. Cost is $125/girl (deadline to register is Wednesday, July 20). Questions? Local Girl Serving on National Panel to Improve the Image of Girls and Women in Media
Caitlin O'Brien, a local Girl Scout Ambassador, is serving on an eight- member national panel, the Healthy MEdia Commission, which will work with the entertainment industry to encourage producers of movies, TV shows and videos to present a more positive image of girls and women.
