Beloved Girl Scout, Pat Berlet, will be Missed

Pat Berlet
It is with great sorrow that Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas brings you the news of the passing of Pat Berlet, longtime Girl Scout volunteer and friend.

Ms. Pat, as she was so affectionately called, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer this morning, Friday, June 10, 2011.

A lifelong advocate for girls and young women, Pat served as the President of GSSWT's Board of Directors from 1987 to 1993 and has faithfully served Girl Scouts in a wide array since. Most recently, she spearheaded the development of the council's new volunteer structure, serving as the co-chair of GSSWT's Volunteer Advisory Steering Committee.

Professionally, Pat worked for more than 30 years for Student Health Services at UTSA and retired as director January 2010.

Pat's list of Girl Scout recognition and awards is long, and well-deserved. She was presented with the Thanks Badge in 1973 and the Thanks Badge II in 1992, the organization's highest and most prestigious awards for adult volunteers. She was also a recipient of the Appreciation Pin, Executive Award, Honor Pin, Daisy Pin, and Special Service Award.

Pat's service to Girl Scouts impacted thousands of girls and volunteers -- her legacy will live on for generations to come.

As we receive further details regarding funeral services, we will be sure to share them with you.
