Recognizing Excellence Awards

In 2010, for the first-time ever, a staff award program was created, Recognizing Excellence. Just as GSSWT recognizes its valuable volunteers, there are awesome staff members much deserving of recognition as well.

The April 2011 awardee was Denise Aguilar, Excellence of Flexibility

Read more about Denise here!

The Recognizing Excellence staff awards will award up to six staff members each quarter in one of the following categories: customer service, commitment, flexibility, teamwork, leadership, and creativity and innovation. Nominations from staff and volunteers for the next quarter will be accepted now through June 30 for awards presented in July 2011. A group of board members, led by CEO Anna Maria Chvez will select the award recipients each quarter. At the end of the year, one staff member will be selected as GSSWT's Best of the Best.

Be sure to keep an eye out for staff doing something right! Get the Recognizing Excellence nomination form here!

How to Help Sister Girl Scouts in
Tornado-hit Areas

Sister Girl Scouts across the southern states have been tragically affected by the severe storm system that tore through the region last week.

Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama has suffered significant damage in 31 of their 37 counties. Trish Coghlan, CEO, reports that one Girl Scout lost her life and countless members of the extended Girl Scout family have suffered significant loss. They will not know the full impact until power and communication lines are restored throughout their jurisdiction.

Girl Scouts of the USA encourages those who would like to donate money or collect funds to do so with respected national charities that focus on disaster relief including the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

You can also visit the North-Central Alabama website for more details.

At times like these, Girl Scouts come together in sisterhood to help those in need. We have seen our Movement rally in support of the victims of Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters over the years, and will continue to do everything we can to help our communities in the weeks and months ahead.
