100th Anniversary -- Be a Part of History.
Deadlines Fast Approaching
There are numerous ways for adult volunteers and girls age 14 and older to participate in plans for Girl Scouts of the USA's 100th Anniversary. Currently, GSSWT is accepting applcations for Girl Champions to serve on the council's 100th Anniversary Steering Committee and for National Council delegates. Learn more about each opportunity below.
Girl Champions
Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary is just around the corner and we are seeking help from the ones who make it all possible -- girls! Girls are asked to make a one- or two-year commitment on the 100th Anniversary Steering Committee as the Girl Champion for one of many sub-committees. Each girl's commitment will help to form the activities and events that will frame the 100th Anniversary.
If you know of a girl or girls in the 9th-12th grade, please encourage them to apply. Send in the completed application ASAP to Erin Magee.
National Council Delegates
Girl Scouts of the USA's National Convention brings together the diverse membership of the organization once every three years. The 52nd National Council Session and Convention will be held in nearby Houston November 10-13, 2011.
The National Council Session in 2011 plays a critical role in deciding the future of Girl Scouting and GSSWT is committed to electing a delegation representative of its membership.
All members of Girl Scouts, age 14 and above, are eligible to apply to serve as a National Council delegate. Elected National Council delegates will be involved in all aspects of the 52nd National Council Session and Convention and will have all travel and convention expenses paid for by GSSWT. Get more information at girlscouts-swtx.org/100.
If you are interested in serving as a National Council delegate, please complete the application and return it to the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center, Attn: Board Development Committee, no later than Tuesday, February 8, 2011. |

The Most Delicious App Ever!
GSSWT is one of only 21 councils nationwide piloting a Girl Scout Cookie Locator app to better connect Girl Scouts and their cookies to customers.
The free mobile app is available for AT&T iPhone and Android users from iTunes, Android Marketplace or by calling **GSCOOKIES from any Smartphone and has been named AT&T's "App of the Month" for February.
The Cookie Locator app is an extention of the online Cookie Locator feature made possible by Little Brownie Bakers, and is connected to the booth scheduler in eBudde for real-time results. Features of the "most delicious app" allow customers to:
- Find the Girl Scout cookie booth sale closest to your GPS location or by zip code or city and state
- Choose the times you want to shop
- Map you way to the nearest Girl Scout cookie booth sale
- Add the sale day to your calendar
- Discover your cookie personality and tell the world about it
- Share sale locations and more with friends on Facebook, Twitter and e-mail
Download the app today, and be sure to pass it on! |
Doodle 4 Google
| |
Girl Scouts of the USA has partnered with the fourth annual Doodle 4 Google contest.
Open to K-12 students in the U.S., Doodle 4 Google is an opportunity of a lifetime: to design the Google.com homepage doodle for millions to see, and while you're at it, take home a $15,000 scholarship and a $25,000 technology grant for your school.
In the spirit of thinking big, the theme this year is "What I'd like to do someday..." For an optional doodle party kit tailored to Girl Scouts (intro letter, flyer, awards certificate) look here.
Last year, it was reported that a Girl Scout finalist was in the Doodle 4 Google contest. |
