Hi ,
Happy Spring!
At last, my very favorite month of the year is here (my birthday month) and my garden is its very best. I have a 20' by 30' (yes, feet not inches) Rhododendron in my yard and for the past twenty years I've done nothing to it except admire its resilent beauty; yet I am blessed enough to enjoy it's abundant display of regal purple flowers every spring!
We will bury my mother's ashes and invite friends and family to celebrate her life later this month as well. My mother admired my peaceful piece of the universe in my yard and having her memorial at this time seems fitting.
I want to reflect on all the opportunities that showered me this past April. Speaking engagements, fundraising events, as well as bonus print and TV exposure for TeeMcBee. April was decidedly the most difficult dealing with the loss of my mom but all the blessings and gems that revealed themselves through that loss are what I tried to focus on while staying in the moment - mom would have been proud. I even discovered a few things about myself in the process.
Please enjoy this e-zine issue and be sure to take a moment to reflect on the beauty that surrounds YOU. Whether its nature, family/friends or new opportunities - don't let them go unnoticed.
Sincerely Filled with Gratitude,
Traci

INDELIBLE IMPRESSIONTM |
POLISHING your Networking Image by 'seeing' yourself from another perspective...
In April I had the honor of presenting this very subject to an audience of 55 women at My Women's Business Network held at the 100th Bomb Group Restaurant.
Communication experts found through a variety of websites on Google say that 35% of what we communicate is through our VISUAL appearance, 7% of what we communicate is VERBAL with the words we choose and 58% is through our NON-VERBAL communication, as in our body language and facial expressions.
From my years in sales and after attending hundreds of networking events I observed a pattern of personality traits. From that, I developed some characters to best demonstrate these traits and help teach a 'lesson' we can all learn about ourselves and others. Please keep in mind that we usually have a combination of all these traits and in different intensities. I am, and always will be, a student of life. If you analyze yourself very honestly and realize your intensity level is way too concentrated in any one character, then of course, you will want to examine that issue and consciously adjust the belief in yourself that causes the behavior.
So what is your Intensity and Style?
Not sure? Ask those around you - not everyone will be able to be completely frank with you but if you are not reaching success or developing relationships from your networking efforts then you really need to know why.
PEOPLE WATCHER / WALL FLOWER: This is the person who stands off to the side, not really reaching out but watching everyone around her. She is concentrating on every detail of what others are wearing and how they express themselves.
N - E - X - T !! : This is the woman who is perfectly comfortable walking up to anyone and "evaluating" whether they are someone with whom she can do business. She will make that judgement within 10-30 seconds and if you don't make the cut she will always remember you, smile and call you by name but won't stop to chat since she is concentrating on the fresh blood walking in the door. She is the woman with a plan. Unfortunately this personality usually doesn't make too many deep connections with anyone whom she doesn't actually do business.

The Drama Queen -She loves to connect people and usually needs to be the most outspoken at the table as she flutters about having a connection to everyone in some way. The Drama Queen is who we go to when we need an introduction or to have our memories freshened about someone. Drama Queen's usually look out for the wallflowers and try to push them along into networking. The one thing a DQ needs and expects is to be acknowledged for the connection! If you forget, she WILL remember and you may never get another connection - so beware!
CARD PUSHER: Her ONE goal is to put her business card into every hand possible. She believes that is the definition of networking and doesn't realize its more important to make a meaningful connection to another person.
SETTLED IN: She cases the room to find the best seat to fit all her needs: its near an escape route and restrooms, best view of the speakers and one of the first tables to go up to the buffet. She makes room to put her things, sits down and waits for the show to start - oh, and lunch of course! She then greets familiar faces to join her by saying she has saved them seat and proceeds to surround herself by people with whom to chat. She's happy to meet new faces but prefers them at a distance like across the table not next to her.
If you have comments about any of the above or wonder how you fit in, contact me. Remember this is just another way to see another perspective.
Next month I will give more details about the following characters:
THE RAMBLER
THE VAMPIRE
WILLY NILLY
JILL OF ALL TRADES
ICE PRINCESS
INVISIBLE

SWAP II WRAP-UP |
Signature
An even bigger success than the first SWAP!
Huge kudos to my co-sponsors Debbie and Bill Brink, owners of PURE ENCHANTMENT in Beachcliff Market Square. Their beautiful store was the absolute perfect background for this fun, outside-of-the-box fundraising event.
Dress for Success Cleveland is always my focus charity and for good reason. Dress for Success is focused on taking women in N.E. Ohio from Welfare to Work by first focusing on their outer image then building each woman's confidence from the inside - out. This is done by providing life skills to continue growing and reaching for more confidence, happiness, success and prosperity in their lives.

Traci, Lorrie & Debbie
I want to shout out a huge THANK YOU to my volunteers - without them I couldn't do these Swap Parties! The ever faithful Nancy Maxwell, my sister-in-law, always organizing the clothing as it arrives with our guests. My awesome 2nd set of eyes, my sister Kym McBride, who is always pitching in whenever and wherever! New this Swap was Melana Carbary from Ameriprise Financial working the registration table and selling raffle tickets. Melana was a guest at the 1st Swap and offered to help this time around.
Debbie & Bill Brink were so organized rearranging their lovely store, setting up chairs, borrowing racks and arranging the the menu with The Pearl of the Orient and Sweet Melissa's, on top of contacting all the Beachcliff businesses for donations as well. The only glitch was realizing, on this unseasonably hot, 80-degree April day that the air-conditioning in this new facility had never been started and consequently wouldn't turn on. It could have been disastrous but my husband, Bob saved the day! Just as the store was filling with our guests he was able to get the system working so we could all comfortably enjoy the evening.
Lorrie Taylor took time from her Friday night to accommodate our evening Swap, she hung out and got to know the ladies, as well. In fact, Lorrie so enjoyed Pure Enchantment and the Brinks that she went back the following week and did a segment on just their store!
Thanks Lorrie for your support of the local business women - we need reporters like you!
Lorrie's camera man was a great personality for a room full of women. He was very charming and involved too. He arrived an hour before Lorrie and took lots of video. Of course what you see on TV is less than two minutes, but it gives you the gist of what a Swap is all about.
Crystal, a masseuse from Massage Envy, gave relaxing chair massages. Many of the ladies mentioned how nice that was to receive, so kudos to Crystal and thanks for the tote bags and water bottles for each guest too.

Laughter and Swapping go hand-in-hand
If you were not on the guest list don't miss the next one - it's in development. And, if you know a local business that would like to host our next Swap, have them contact me.

$$ SAVING TIP OF THE MONTH |
|
Create your signature style by avoiding the 'cliche' looks found at the retailers. Go to a vintage shop and pick-up a bright tangerine or royal purple purse, take a recycled brooch or pin, a colorful fun scarf you never figured out how to wear on your body and you've got the makings for your own designer bag! Tie the scarf on the handle of the purse and attach the brooch and, ZAP - you have a unique look for less than half what you would have paid. And you won't see your purse on anyone else's arm!
FREE ALERT... FREE ALERT... FREE ALERT... Here is great site I found to show you how to wear all those scarves you've been saving for years in a drawer www.aksesare.com/tieoneon
Check it out! And, if you find new ways to add to your wardrobe with scarves you already own - TAKE a PHOTO and it send to me. I'd love to share it, and if I get multiple photos I'll do a contest for the best.
No budget to purchase anything this month? Take one of the purses you already own, then take a look around your closet to create your own signature style with it.
Case in point: The other day I was at T.J. Maxx & More. Upon checking-out, I saw three women in line with varying versions of the same purse! It was the zebra print that is so popular. But come-on, do you want to blend in or stand-out? Dare to be different - and send me a photo of your new creation! | |
