Since 1988, the E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues has brought viewpoints on international and public policy issues to UNL and the citizens of Nebraska to promote understanding and  encourage debate.

The Forum, a cooperative project of the Cooper Foundation, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Lied Center, is named for its founder, E.N. "Jack" Thompson, a visionary leader who understood the importance of global thinking and action.

FenceWilson Dialogue Looks at Path to Citizenship for Illegal Immigrants

Tickets are still available for the second annual Charles and Linda Wilson Dialogue on Domestic Issues. This year's Dialogue will focus on "Illegal Immigrants: Path to Citizenship?"

On Wednesday, March 25, Dr. Vernon Briggs, professor emeritus of Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Dr. Michael Olivas, William B. Bates Distinguished Chair of Law and Director or the Institute of Higher Education Law & Governance at the University of Houston Law Center will discuss their differing opinions on creating a path to citizenship for undocumented workers.

Professor Rick Alloway of UNL's College of Journalism and Mass Communication will moderate the dialogue.

The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. To request tickets, contact the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 402-472-4747 or 800-432-3231. You may also request tickets in person at the Lied Center, 301 N. 12th Street in Lincoln. If you cannot join us in person, you can view the event live on UNL's website, www.unl.edu and, in the Lincoln area, on TimeWarner Cable Channel 21.

Just prior to the lecture, Dr. Alan Tomkins, Director of the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, will give a brief introduction to the political and policy climate for and public perceptions of immigration in Nebraska. The pre-talk will begin at 6:30 p.m in the Steinhart Room on the lobby level of the Lied Center. Admission is open to all Wilson Dialogue attendees; but seating is limited.

Sarah ChayesChayes Answers More Questions from March 4 Lecture

E.N. Thompson Forum speaker Sarah Chayes has written answers to questions that didn't fit into the alloted time during her March 4 lecture, "Notes from Afghanistan". Those answers are now available on the Thompson Forum web site along with a podcast of her lecture and initial question and answer session.

Citizenship in a Global Age Globeinhands

In 2007, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation convened the World Forum on the Future of Democracy. Since then, the Foundation has has engaged thousands of people in a worldwide conversation about the roles, responsibilities and rights of citizens in a democracy.
     On Tuesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. at the Lied Center, Colin G. Campbell, Chairman and President of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, joins us for the final lecture in the 2008-09 E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues to share his perspectives. Watch your email for more information.
