Since 1988, the E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues has brought viewpoints on international and public policy issues to UNL and the citizens of Nebraska to promote understanding and  encourage debate.

The Forum, a cooperative project of the Cooper Foundation, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Lied Center, is named for its founder, E.N. "Jack" Thompson, a visionary leader who understood the importance of global thinking and action.

Looking through the lenses of history, philosophy, religion, globalization, conflict, economics and citizenship, this year's lectures provide insights into the ideal and the reality, the promise and the challenge of democracy in the 21st Century. Ambrosius Named Forum
Program AmbrosiusCommittee Chair

In April, UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman appointed Lloyd E. Ambrosius, Ph.D, as chair of the E.N. Thompson Forum Program Committee.  Ambrosius is Samuel Clark Waugh Distinguished Professional of International Relations and Professor of History.  He joined UNL's Department of History in 1967 and has served on the Forum's Program Committee since its inception in 1988.

Cooper Foundation President Art Thompson said, "Lloyd's scholarly expertise in U.S. foreign and international relations are an excellent match for the Thompson Forum."

The Program Committee oversees the programming for the Forum and works to advance its mission.  Ambrosius replaces Patrice McMahon, Ph.D, who served as Program Committee Chair from May 2006 until early this year.
Forum Inspires Campus-Wide Conversation
Established in 2007, the Nebraska Colloquium seeks to engage students, faculty, and the larger community in conversations around a common theme. Because of the Forum's presence on campus and in the community, the Colloquium adopts the Forum's annual theme.  The theme for the 2008-09 Nebraska Colloquium is Democracy.

Various campus departments are offering lectures and activities to complement the Thompson Forum presentations, most notably the Honors Forum series of UNL faculty talks. Most events are open to the public. The full schedule of lectures and additional information about opportunities to participate in this community conversation are available on the Colloquium website.
