Your 2011-2012 Spirit of Nebraska Annual Program Book arrives this week! If you haven't received your copy in the mail yet, there is a book online for you to view, click here. The Program Book is divided by Pathways and there is a special Pathways Passport that girls will have stamped as they participate in Girl Scout programs throughout the year. As they collect their stamps, they will earn rewards!

100 Year Anniversary Cookbook
Submit Your Recipes Today

Join in a fun, statewide collaboration for the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting. A cookbook is being created by two volunteers and they want you, adult Girl Scouts, to send them your recipes! Please take a few moments to read a letter from Jae and Sue Ann, who are putting the cookbook together. You can be part of this once-in-a-lifetime event: 100 years of Girl Scouting! Peggy Stambaugh

 

In the northwest corner of the state, the name Peggy Stambaugh is synonymous with Girl Scouting. Peggy is a lifetime member and has been a volunteer in the Prairie Hills service area for 20 years. To read more about Peggy and her dedication to Girl Scouts, click here

Fall Product Program 

When girls participate in the Fall Product Program, they learn 5 essential skills; goal setting, money management, business ethics, people skills and decision making.  The girls also learn how taking action today can create a better tomorrow; all while earning start up funds for their troop and awesome cumulative prizes for themselves!

Move it! Sports Sampler

 

Kick off the school year by experiencing a few of the lifetime sports offered at the YMCA. Try rock climbing, Zumba and dodge ball. After your workout, cool off in the pool! You won't want to miss this program on Saturday, September 24, at the Scottsbluff YMCA.  Sign up by September 9 to reserve space. Magic of Chemistry 

 

Back by popular demand, UNO chemistry professors and students are again offering Junior Girl Scouts a fun, hands-on science program: The Case of the Unsigned Letter. This CSI-style mystery offers girls lots of lab time to expand their science skills while they try to unravel clues. The Case of the Unsigned Letter will be offered in October and again in April.

Green Power Bike Festival

 

Plan to attend the first ever Green Power Bike Festival on Saturday, September 24 from 1:30-4:30 at Stinson Park (67th and Center, Omaha). This family-friendly bike festival features safety and maintenance tips, a bike rodeo and, of course, a ride on the trail! You can even make a smoothie using the "Bike Blender"! destinations Information Fairs

All girls, 6th grade and older, are invited to attend a free destinations Information Fair during September. destinations is a Girl Scouts of the USA travel program. Interested girls must apply for and be selected for these special travel adventures. SPECIAL NOTE: Friday, October 28 is the application deadline for any girl who wants to go on a 2011-2012 destination! Be sure to check the Annual Program Book for all dates and locations and RSVP now to reserve your spot at a destinations Information Fair near you! VFW Sponsors Contests for Youth

 

Each year the VFW sponsors two contests for youth, "Patriots Pen" and "Voice of Democracy." "Patriots Pen" is an essay contest open to 6th through 8th grade students and this year's theme is: Are You Proud of Your Country? The "Voice of Democracy" is a speech contest for 9th through 12th graders and this year's theme is: Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?
