It All Begins with You!
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Girl Scouting. Volunteers who choose to be Girl Scout leaders are an incredible asset to our mission. Girl Scout leaders that receive proper training in their important role as leaders, guides, mentors, teachers, and advocates for girls and troops will make the biggest impact. Do not underestimate your influence! The positive experience of a girl in Girl Scouts begins with you! Thank you for your commitment.

More Information on Your Current Training Options

Trying to decide which training format to choose? Let us help!

The in-person, group training remains the best option to receive the most effective training for new or bridging leaders. In-person training, allows you to receive personal contact with a Girl Scout trainer and have the opportunity to meet and greet other leaders who are also looking for the same information and guidance as you! Training and curriculum specialists are currently scheduling in person trainings across the state. Please check our website after August 31st for a list of locations and dates.

The online training is a wonderful option for those whom have a distance to travel to an in-person training or do not have the availability to attend one of our sessions. This is a great way to receive the information you need at a time you schedule to suit your calendar. Just logon and go! There are discussion activities with a trainer via email that provides the personal touch component!

The self study training is a great alternative if you do not have internet access or do not have interest in working with a computer. The self study is essentially the online training on paper. By contacting a training and curriculum specialist, they can send out a self study to you and you can get started!

P.S. All of the above trainings are a work in progress! As we gather information from trainers, volunteers, staff, GSUSA and already realigned states - we will continue to perfect all components to provide a consistent, interactive, quality driven training package for you! That is our commitment to our members and volunteers.

Meet your Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska Volunteer Development Team

Stephanie

Stefanie

Stefanie Ortiz-Cidlik is the Vice President of Volunteer Development and Outreach for Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska Council.  Stefanie holds a bachelor of arts in HR Management and a masters degree in Business Management from Doane College.  She has spent her career working in the non-profit world and maintains a special interest in youth-serving organizations.  Stefanie is an active member of the community participating in Leadership Lincoln's class XXIII, the Human Services Federation, and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce to name a few.

Having been a member of Girl Scouts as a girl growing up in Lincoln, she was happy to join the Girl Scout staff five years ago.  Prior to our May realignment, Stefanie served as the Director of Membership and Program for Homestead Council in southeastern Nebraska where she led the membership team to an eight percent membership increase.  She was one of four people selected to represent GSUSA at an HIV/AIDS Advocacy conference at Sangam World Centre in Pune, India, last year. Stefanie is looking forward to guiding the Volunteer Department during our time of transition and leading the development of a strong, statewide system to support and develop all of our volunteers in order to create a great experience for our girls.

While away from the office, Stefanie enjoys time with her husband, Cid, and their 10 year old daughter, Madelyn, who sold over 850 boxes of Girl Scout cookies last year!  She loves playing tennis, reading almost anything, listening to blues and jazz, and attending live theatre.  She collects Academy Award winning movies and knows way too much about Rocky movies and the Brady Bunch!

Marilyn Marilyn
Marilyn Czerwinski, a lifetime Girl Scout, joined Girl Scouts as a Brownie.  Beginning her volunteer work at Great Plains Council in 1982 as a Brownie co-leader for her daughter's troop, Marilyn held a variety of volunteer positions, including neighborhood school organizer, camp consultant and neighborhood chairman.  She became a volunteer trainer in 1989 and has been the Adult Development Director for Girl Scouts - Great Plains Council for the last eight years prior to accepting the Training & Curriculum Specialist position for new Spirit of Nebraska council.

Marilyn is a GSUSA and WAGGGS Certified Instructor of Trainers. She has a masters degree in Public Administration from UNO, a 15-hour post graduate concentration in Adult Learning, Theory, and Development through Drake University and recently completed a Certificate in Designing e-Learning at the University of Colorado Denver where she is continuing to pursue her masters degree in e-Learning  Design.  Marilyn is a member of the national American Society of Training and Development and VP of Education for the Nebraska Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development.

Janice
Janice Donoghue has always worked in the non-profit field for organizations that promote positive opportunities for youth. She has years of experience in managing the recruitment, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of a science based youth program. She spent over five years providing interactive research-based training that best prepared community youth organizations and schools on a statewide and nation-wide level to facilitate the program with youth and to evaluate their implementation success. While doing this, Janice had the opportunity to manage components of a nation-wide school and community sites pilot test project of the curriculum and assisted with revisions of the copyrighted curriculum series.

Janice has been a part of the Homestead Service Center staff for the past four years. Most recently she was the Coordinator for the College Bound Program. She coordinated a new grant funded project that provided career events and college journeys for middle school girls. It was not unusual for Janice to load a bus of 50+ girls for an overnight road trip to a college campus! Janice also has seen the inside and outside of the Girl Scout cookie sale, as she has previously served as Homestead's Product Sales Manager.

With a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in Human Development and Family Science, she is qualified to work with individuals of all ages. In her role as a Training and Curriculum Specialist, she looks forward to the opportunity to prepare Girl Scout volunteers to be great leaders for their Girl Scout troops, ensuring that the girls have the best Girl Scout experience possible.

Vicki Vicki
Vicki Hanus has worked for Girl Scouts for six and a half years. She was a troop leader for ten years before that. She has three daughters who were involved in Girl Scouts, one of them earning the Gold Award and she has a son who is currently serving in the Navy.  She has been married to her husband, Rick, for 26 years. Besides working with the volunteer department, she is the Site Director for the Prairie Hills Service Center in Columbus and she works with Product Sales. Vicki's hobby outside of Girl Scouting is bowling.
