Casa Shalom named Ambassador
of Peace
In October, Casa Shalom had the great honor of being named Ambassador of Peace by the local City of San Lucas. The Ambassador of Peace ceremony is held monthly in commemoration of the end of Guatemala's 36-year-long civil war, and honors local organizations that strive to promote peace in the area. Casa Shalom Directors Josh & Jessica Hanson were honored for their work in raising responsible, peaceful Guatemalan children who will serve as the next generation of leaders. Jessica had the honor of placing a white rose on the Statue of Peace, and gave a speech promoting Casa Shalom's work and goals. In the photo above, the Hansons and Casa Shalom's kids pose with San Lucas mayor Yener Plaza and the replica of the Statue of Peace that was given to Casa Shalom.

Casa Shalom's valedictorians
We are proud to announce 3 valedictorians among Casa Shalom's students - Alejandro, 16, Maria, 17, (both pictured above), and Martin, 16, were all named valedictorians for 2011 in their respective classes. We are so proud of these young people and their academic accomplishments!

Meet Juan Carlos
Meet Juan Carlos, Casa Shalom's newest child.  Juan Carlos came to us after living on the streets and shining shoes to survive. 10-years-old, Juan Carlos has never been to school and is illiterate. We are so grateful for the chance to minister to this precious boy and make a difference in his young life!

Dear friends,
Merry Christmas from the children and staff of Casa Shalom! We pray that your family is blessed as you celebrate the birth of our Savior!  We at the Casa Shalom orphanage have had a blessed year, and we give thanks for everyone who has supported us both financially and in prayer this year. This year, we have ministered to nearly 70 different children by providing for them a safe place to live and grow, nutritious food, medical care, education, love and most importantly, God's Word.  We ask for your continued prayers as we enter another year of ministry to His precious little ones.

A Casa Shalom Christmas
This Christmas, Casa Shalom's children were blessed by the visit of a short-term missions team from the Monroe Church of God in Monroe, Georgia.  The team not only took the children shopping and bought them each one pair of tennis shoes and one pair of dress shoes, but they also brought huge Christmas stockings stuffed with presents selected especially for each child or teen.  An extra-special thank you to the team for their hard work on the new secure parking area for the orphanage's vehicles, and for giving of their time and resources to provide a special Christmas for these precious kids! Right: Omar, 11, enjoys his very first Christmas at Casa Shalom. In addition to his new shoes, he received sports equipment, candy, board games and art supplies!

As missionaries, we must raise our own support to serve as directors of Casa Shalom. In these tough economic times, we realize you must prayerfully choose where to invest your charitable contributions. We ask you to pray and consider a donation to our ministry which allows us to continue to stay in Guatemala and serve the children of Casa Shalom.  We do not have our funds raised for our current budget year - but we are trusting God to supply the need.
