A special adoption
For the first time in many years, children from Casa Shalom have been placed with an adoptive family!  In June, siblings Linda, 3, and Jorge, 6, were adopted by a Christian family from the nearby town of Chimaltenango.  Their new mother and father were unable to have children of their own, and were thrilled to welcome the kids into their family!  (At this point, only Guatemalan citizens are allowed to adopt Guatemalan children.)

Dear friends and familyThe Hansons

The last few months have held more changes than we could have imagined, both in our personal life, and in our ministry at the Casa Shalom Orphanage.  As you found out in our last newsletter, in April we celebrated the arrival of our first child, Sophia Kate.  For more info on how little Sophie is growing, see below. As we've waited for her pediatrician to give permission for her travel to Guatemala, Josh has traveled back and forth from Florida.  He misses time with "his girls" but has kept very busy running the orphanage and hosting short-term missions teams from across the United States.  Take a moment to check out all the great Casa Shalom news below!

Support from the States
Roofing crew from New YorkThis summer, Casa Shalom has had the privilege of hosting short-term missions teams from across the United States: from Washington state, New York, Tennessee, Minnesota, and Florida. The teams have painted the children's houses, put new roofs on the babies' and teen girls' houses, purchased new shoes for the kids, and lots more! A big thanks to those who have sacrificed their time and funds to minister to Casa Shalom's children! An update on Sophia Kate
Sophia KateAs you read in our last newsletter, we celebrated the arrival of our daughter Sophia Kate in April. She was born 6 weeks prematurely, and we've been in the United States since her birth, waiting for her pediatrician to give us the "go ahead" to travel once her lungs have matured.  Josh has been traveling back and forth between Florida and Guatemala, and in early August returned to Guatemala for good.  Jessica and Sophie hope to return to Guatemala in mid-September and be reunited with Josh after 6 long weeks apart!  We praise the Lord for Sophie's growth and progress - she was only 3 lbs, 10 ounces at birth but now weighs over 11 lbs!

As missionaries, we must raise our own support to serve as directors of Casa Shalom. In these tough economic times, we realize you must prayerfully choose where to invest your charitable contributions. We ask you to pray and consider a donation to our ministry which allows us to continue to stay in Guatemala and serve the children of Casa Shalom.  We do not have our funds raised for our current budget year - but we are trusting God to supply the need. The Hansons
