Morphix Technologies® has created a Training Kit for law enforcement, responder and agency training facilities and schools in response to the increasing need for chemical awareness training. With a rise in illegal drug and chemical production, toxic chemical spills due to industrial or transportation accidents and chemical suicides, more officer and responder training programs include courses that provide critical knowledge on chemical scenarios and how to respond to them.

Often times, protocols include officers and responders alerting hazmat teams to the scene, but do not provide the initial responders with tools to identify whether or not odorless, toxic gases are indeed present within the perimeter or beyond.  The Chameleon® Training Kit, used during training, helps initial responders learn to identify the presence of toxic chemicals through a training Chameleon® armband with special inactive cassettes that show the difference between unaffected cassettes and cassettes that read a chemical in the environment. Also included in the kit are blue training cassettes (50 total) and ammonia ampoules that enable the instructor to demonstrate, in a well-ventilated area, how the cassettes change color when exposed to a chemical.

Q: Would you recommend Marine TUF-CLOTH over TUF-CLOTH for concealed carry firearms which are exposed to perspiration during hot and humid summer months? I have tried several products I read about in gun magazines, none of them prevented rust during concealed carry.

A: We recommend Marine TUF-CLOTH for extreme conditions such as concealed carry. That being said, many customers use the regular TUF-CLOTH with no complaints. Either way regular use of the TUF-CLOTHs will ensure rust free performance. Please note that if a firearm has already rusted, the rust needs to be completely removed in order to prevent it from reappearing. Many folks think they have removed all rust (using steel wool or similar, for example), re-apply oil, then find the rust reappears. In this case the oil has simply been masking the rust rather than preventing it. Often it is necessary to use a chemical to remove rust. We always use Naval Jelly or similar to remove rust. Any rust remover containing phosphoric acid will be effective; do be careful when using it as it too will attack finishes as rust does. Naval Jelly is easy to get at auto parts stores.
