Issue 69

Greetings!

There is one thing different about living down south as opposed to living in New England. There are more "country roads."  And with these long, empty roads you'll find the occasional farm equipment, farm animal, duct-taped car from the seventies or pedestrian crossing the street to get the mail. So needless to say, speed limits are 35 miles and sometimes under. But since we've moved down to New Bern, our town and county have experienced several police related accidents on these roads. One recently resulted in the officer's death and another in a civilian's. Plus there are several other accidents that luckily did not result in loss of life, but loss of property. And yes, you might have caught that, "police related accident." Officers spend long hours in their patrol cars and when you have a 5.7 Hemi sitting under you, a long and winding, empty road in front of you, the temptation might be too great to not "put the pedal to the metal."

If you haven't heard of "Below 100," I encourage you to help spread the word and become involved. Law Officers put their lives on the line for the public good, so a senseless officer death affects not just his family, but the whole community. Below 100 is a campaign by which through awareness and training we can effectively reduce the number of line-of-duty police deaths to below 100. Law Officer Magazine has been instrumental in helping to promote this campaign without seeking any  profit other than more officers alive today than would have been without the program. The Below 100 program espouses five tenants: 1) Wear your seatbelt, 2) Watch your speed, 3) Wear your vest, 4) WIN - What's important now?, 5) REMEMBER - Complacency Kills

If you are a manufacturer interested in hosting a training program for your area law enforcement, please give us a shout at Laura Burgess Marketing or Law Officer Magazine.

Heizer Defense Will Change the Way You Think About Your Personal Concealed Carry

We are getting ever closer to the official launch of the first product from Heizer Defense LLC. Heizer will change the way you think about your personal concealed carry. Bulk no longer equals power. Just think about your phone and how incredibly small they have become and yet have more bells and whistles than ever before. That same thinking went into the design of the new upcoming pistol. We'll leave it at that and also leave you with this parting image.

Hey Tuff Guy, Is That Pen Your Using a Tuff-Writer? Why Yes, Yes It Is!

Excerpt from Gear and Gadgets for Everyday Carry...

If you have been reading for a while then you know that some articles back I reviewed the Uzi Tactical Pen. Now at that time I had nothing but a standard Bic to compare to and when you look at against your run of the mill office pen it looks pretty good. Well things have changed... I received a nifty plastic tube in the mail a short while ago that contained the Tuff-Writer Frontline Series Tactical Pen...

I popped open the tube, ripped away the plastic and whipped out one sweet pen! As soon as it cleared its plastic confines I was thumping, poking and signing things left and right! From its textured grip to smooth finish this pen will forever change your perception of Tactical Pens.

Coming in at 6.5" long, .5" in diameter and being made of aluminum with a hard anodized finish the Tuff-Writer feels sizable in the hand but is easy to use and isn't too heavy. It's a pleasure to write with and I have found it to work well with the "Hey, lets not scare people with our pen" approach.

Revision's Batlskin™ Head Protection System - A Modular Solution Ideal for All Military Situations

Revision Military
announced the launch of its Batlskin Modular Head Protection System (MHPS) this September. Leading the fight against battlefield injuries, Revision's Batlskin solution uniquely addresses the soldier's need for a single, integrated head protection system that's scalable and adaptable to the multidimensional nature of modern warfare. More specifically, the Batlskin System enables the soldier, for example, to "up armor" from a basic shell, liner and harness in most situations, to a helmet and visor configuration useful during high risk activities such as route clearance, and to a complete helmet, visor and mandible guard system during breaching, cupola, or similar combat operations.  This allows the Warfighter to adopt the perfect balance between enhanced protection and the lethality delivered by a lightweight ergonomic combat helmet.

Morphix Technologies Makes it Easy to Include Chemical Detection in Law Enforcement Training

With the rise in meth labs, hazardous material accidents and chemical suicides nationwide, law officers need to add to their traditional training curriculum to include chemical scenarios. We are seeing a rise in training programs and classes that are addressing this growing need but most of these programs and training courses require the officer to contact other agencies better equipped to handle chemical emergencies after the situation is identified. There are two problems with this approach. Number one, officers have long been trained (and more often it seems to be a natural reaction) to jump in a situation where a life may be at risk whether it's a baby, grandmom, you or me, or the POS that might have just committed a crime. Second, officers find themselves more often in situations that would not lend themselves to be a particularly dangerous situation pertaining to hazardous chemicals, yet can be. These situations are as mundane as pulling over a car with a broken tail light, checking on vehicles with what might appear to be a person napping in them, domestic disputes and more. If more training was done on the front end, less officers would find themselves in dire straits when the mundane turns out to be hazardous. Morphix Technologies, the brains behind the easy-to-use chemical detector kit the Chameleon®, has now made it easier to include chemical detection in their training.

Morphix will provide any training school a Chameleon® Training Kit and PowerPoint presentation for your students, plus collateral and a 15% off an agency Chameleon® kit purchase.

The kit includes an armband, cassettes and training cassettes and ammonia ampoules to test and train in a well ventilated area. Students can quickly learn to configure the armband and place it on their forearm or using the hook and look attachment apply it to vests PRIOR to any situation from an entry to a car stop.

MasterPiece Arms Unveils California Compliant Defender Series of Pistols and Carbines

MasterPiece Arms (MPA) Defender series of Pistols has been tested and has met with all of the State of California's requirements on the sale and ownership of a single-shot pistol. The California Edition Defender pistols include models for the top and side-cocking, 9mm and .45 ACP. MPA redesigned the Defender CA pistols in their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Carrollton, Georgia to meet California pistol requirements for the weapon to be considered a single shot pistol. This includes "single-shot only" capability, a permanent muzzle-break and zero round capacity "dummy" magazine. MPA's magazine lock design renders the "dummy" magazine "non-detachable" under California law.

Additionally, the Defender Carbine Models MPA1SST, MPA20SST and MPA9300SST now meet and exceed the State of California's requirements on the sale and ownership of semi-automatic center-fire rifles. California restricts the sale and possession of semi-automatic center fire rifles with the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and other specified features. California regulations, however, exclude magazines that require the use of a tool to be removed from being deemed "detachable magazines." Our new CA line of MPA Defender Carbines meets and exceeds these requirements by developing our magazine lock design thereby rendering the magazine "non-detachable" under California law.

LaserLyte® has finalized a company-wide move from a 4,000 sq. ft. facility to a new office and facility with over 11,000 sq. ft. The move also allows for additional office space and a conference center. Future plans include the possibility of an indoor shooting range for laser testing in a controlled environment.

Reduce Felt Recoil and Mitigate Muzzle Climb with the KRISS Vector Firearms

Evan McNamara, the Director of Sales for KRISS USA, introduces the KRISS Vector Firearms models to a police department. Three different versions are displayed in this video: two are fully civilian legal and one is a fully automatic sub machine gun that is available for Law Enforcement use.

What really makes the KRISS system unique is the recoil mitigation technology that is in the operating system. As a result, it greatly reduces the result of the felt recoil and mitigates the muzzle climb on the weapon.

Watch the full video to see Charley Martz, Senior Gunsmith and expert on the KRISS Vector Firearms model, explain specific details about the weapon system as he familiarizes the viewer on it.
