Greetings!

Laura Burgess Marketing recently attended the National Shooting Sports Foundation Marketing Symposium in Dallas, Texas. Our client, GunUp's CEO Dan Hall, attended the event and spoke to the group about engaging bloggers. It is interesting to note that within our industry, there is still some reticence about engaging bloggers. The normal response is that a blogger does not answer to an editor or an advertiser. That means the blogger is free to write whatever they want about your product. And that, my friends, is a good thing. Consider a blogger our industry's version of Consumer Reports. Most people between the ages of 18 and 35 say their biggest purchasing influencers are family and friends - in other words, peer marketing. Bloggers provide that link between you, the manufacturer, and your customers as that "peer" advisor.

How to engage bloggers? First of all, they don't bite, or live in the dark, or have it out for you. Most bloggers are young, technically savvy and passionate about their firearms and accessories. Many are veterans or currently work in law enforcement, security, or have a passion for hunting. In fact, there is a good chance they might even know more about your products than you do. Engaging bloggers is not really all that different from engaging print writers. In fact, more and more traditional print writers are extending their reach with blogs. Reach out through email or give them a call. Read their blogs and follow them. Ask them for their site statistics. You'll be pleasantly surprised that many of the top bloggers will have more unique viewers on their blogs than your corporate site! You'll find that almost all the bloggers in our industry want to work with you and they will provide you with the ability to get your news out immediately. I know. We have counted on the many bloggers we work with to help us extend our clients' messages quickly and effectively. Literally, just as quick as it takes to send the message!

Still not sure? Dan Hall has been developing a program for you, free of charge, to help you qualify which bloggers might be right for you and your company. Check out GunUp's Gun Blogger Network and feel free to reach out to any of these great web writers. You won't regret it!

G4S International Training Inc. Sponsors for the 2011 Oregon Sniper Challenge

International Training, Inc. (ITI) was one of the sponsors of the recent Cold Bore Oregon Sniper Challenge. The annual competition was held at the Douglas Ridge Rifle club in Eagle Creek, Oregon at the NRA members' only facility, one of the state's only 1,000 yard ranges.

MagpulThe challenge was created by Steve Huisman, a 14 year law enforcement vet and his wife, Jennifer, as a way to integrate competitive shooting featuring real-world scenarios with what law enforcement or military personnel would experience on the job. The event was first held three years ago, attracting thirteen shooters and $8,000 worth of prizes. The 2011 event experienced a dramatic increase of participants with 54 shooters and a generous $73,000 worth of prizes. In attendance were military, law enforcement, Secret Service and industry personnel and the legendary likes of Marine Corps sniper, Chuck Mawhinney and Army sniper, Ed Eaton.

International Training's Dilley, Texas facility supported the challenge through their sponsorship. ITI Texas is a 275-acre training facility featuring two driving tracks with over two miles of paved surface, an on-site off-road training area, a complex of firearms ranges, explosive range, sniper range, remote village scenario areas, training classrooms, staff instructor building and administrative and instructional support buildings. ITI's training philosophy is bringing real-world customized training with an innovative, hands-on effective approach to security for government, military and law enforcement professionals.

Kodabow Teams Up with "Killbillies Outdoors" TV Show

KODABOW has teamed up with the KILLBILLIES OUTDOORS team- Jason Hanson and Patrick Elswick as a sponsor for the upcoming Killbillies Outdoors TV Show beginning its first season 25 July, 2011 on Versus TV. "We are excited to be onboard with the Killbillies" said Chuck Matasic, President at Kodabow. "These men deliver a unique viewpoint into the hunting experience and have exceptional confidence in our performance crossbows. They appreciate Kodabow as a USA company with a strong military and hunting orientation and it's a natural fit for us to connect with Jason and his extensive outdoor experience and Patrick, a Marine Corps decorated marksman."

Shooters are impressed with the rugged construction and balance of Kodabow crossbows. During cocking, the safety system automatically engages and the crossbow will not shoot in a dry-fire mode. "There is not a tougher or better built crossbow" said Killbillie Patrick Elswick. We are tough on equipment and push the limits with our hunting style and Kodabow far exceeds our expectations with reliability and astonishing accuracy."

Improve Officer Safety and Find Critical Evidential Material With Morphix Technologies' Chameleon

trashbagsNIMBY. NIMBY stands for "not in my backyard." But it could be right next door to you. What am I talking about? Drug dealing or making. For every advance law enforcement makes in stopping drug activity, the drug dealers and manufacturers try to out step them. Methamphetamine makers may move from an isolated trailer to a hotel to the house next door to you. Or they can make their deadly mix in small batches using a "shake and bake" method. When law enforcement officers are on the case, one of the first things they do is gather enough evidence to secure a warrant and put the culprit away. It is important for citizens to know that both the "house/trailer" and "shake and bake" methods produce a ticking time bomb of hazardous chemicals just waiting for an unsuspecting police officer. Morphix Technologies has produced a portable detection kit originally manufactured for military applications that works effectively to identify these toxic substances regardless of the methods used by the bad guys.

Morphix Technologies, developers and manufacturers of the Chameleon chemical detection system, has a simple, easy-to-use solution to determine if toxic chemicals are present. Not only can this simple method improve officer safety, but it also provides the critical evidential material necessary to convict the illegal drug manufacturer. Interested in finding out more on the many ways the Chameleon alerts you to potentially toxic chemicals while on the job? Contact LBM.

Revision Alphawing™ Sport Metal Sunglasses Now Available

AlphawingThe Alphawing™ Sunglasses are Revision's take on the classic aviator. A depart from their military line, these off-duty, non-ballistic shades feature the latest sunglass technology for ultra lightweight comfort.

The sunglass frame is acid etched from a single sheet of stainless steel. Crafting the frame from a single sheet adds strength, as opposed to traditional metal sunglass frames which consist of several wires brazed together-each of those junctions becomes a point of weakness for the system. The acid etch process also reduces weight; the filler metal used to braze multiple-piece frames together is eliminated, thus keeping the eyewear light and streamlined.

The lenses are ingeniously integrated into the frame. With most sunglasses, the lenses fit inside channels on the frame. We've done the reverse by putting locking channels into the lenses - the wire-thin frame then locks neatly and securely into the lens channel. This gives the eyewear its unique, wire-thin look and again, adds to weight reduction of the entire system

The sunglasses feature overmolded arms for comfort and no-slip grip. They also have adjustable, gripping nosepads for a tailored fit.

Protect Your Firearms, Knives and Other Metal Objects This Summer with Sentry Solutions Tuf-Cloth

In the heat and humidity of summer our firearms tend to take a beating from moisture collecting on the exposed surface areas. This could come from condensation due to changes in temperature traveling from the hot outdoors into the cool comfort of air conditioning and back again. Perspiration (ladies perspire, gentlemen sweat) can rust anything containing ferrous metal due to the moisture and the salts released by the body trying to keep cool. That daily thunder shower often catches us in the open at an inconvenient time drenching us and our equipment in moments when cover is nowhere in sight.

GunsAn effective way to protect our firearms, knives and other metal objects that are exposed to the moisture of summer is a simple wipe down with Sentry Solutions' Tuf-Cloth on a regular basis. Tuf-Cloth contains solid particulates that are deposited on the treated surfaces of the metal that provide a barrier to the moisture and actually repel water effectively. This preserves the surface finish of your equipment from the adverse effects of moisture and other corrosives that cause ferrous metal objects to oxidize and rust.

I wipe my firearms down regularly with a Tuf-Cloth even when I just handle them to eliminate the possibility of later finding my finger prints indelibly etched into the surface that I have touched.

A little preventative maintenance goes a long way to ensuring that your equipment will perform as expected when the time comes and the chips are down. Regular use of the Tuf-Cloth will git'er done!

The PEL-6 Secutor Illumination Tool from Stategos International

PEL-6 SecutorStrategos International announces the most highly evolved hand-held and weapon-mounted lighting tool; the PEL-6 Secutor, now available to tactical officers for close quarter conflicts and low light environments. Strategos was the first to recognize that operators required a complete paradigm shift in light tool operation and created a tool that would change the market and affect low-light training methodology.

The LedWave PEL-6 Secutor is the latest technology in illumination tools using feature-rich and intuitive electronics. The Secutor, named after a class of gladiator in ancient Rome, utilizes a CREE™ LED that produces over 120 Lumens of bright white light. Featuring a patented user interface of a rotating tailcap, the flashlight enables the user to program constant on modes thus enabling functions to be activated with one hand. The user does not have to alter his grip to push buttons or rotate bezel rings to achieve immediate tactical functionality.

The Secutor allows the operator to adjust the levels of light from low (variably and fully adjustable) to its unique high output disorienting strobe light. The original design was one of the first to incorporate rapid strobe disorientation into a handheld, everyday flashlight. The strobe function was designed to affect adversaries by reducing or eliminating their ability to maintain balance, peripheral vision and depth perception, thus allowing operators to act quickly and maintain situational awareness.

One of the questions that are frequently asked by potential users is "Aren't there quite a few lights out there that have the same functions as this light?" The answer to this question is "YES," however what clearly separates the SECUTOR from "the other lights" is that it is designed for those requiring a high quality lighting tool for high risk environments. Specifically as follows:

  1. The Secutor user interface of the rear tailcap rotating selector switch to access each group of functions allows the user to change functions and operate the light with one hand leaving the other hand free to perform other tasks, i.e, operate firearm, etc.
  2. The Secutor has the ability to get to the desired function very quickly in one step. In other words many lights out there have a series of button pushes or rotation of a separate switch at the bezel end of the light. These interfaces do not allow the operator to access any desired tactical function very quickly with one hand and require a series of rotations and/or "morse code" type series of button pushes to access the correct function . . . not ideal at all for tactical operations requiring very quick access to the needed lighting function in compressed timeframes.

The Secutor Momentary and Constant On switches are easily accessed with a one or two finger rotation of the tail cap. The unique lock-out system on the Secutor prevents the light being accidentally activated in high risk diminished light situations and also when storing the light. The Secutor is easily activated from the lock out position under duress with the snap of the thumb or fingers.

The new PEL-6 Secutor, the next generation of tactical light technology, features more stable electronics preventing unintentional battery drain and providing better programming stability. The new surface coating of the Secutor is made from a super durable ceramic that prevents scratches better than the previous model.

Now available at Strategos International's www.order-gear.com site, the new LedWave PEL-6 Secutor comes with a 2 year warranty on all parts and a lifetime warranty on the LED and at a more affordable price than the previous model, of only $189.99.

Masterpiece Arms 22LR Ammunition Selection

Having issues with your MPA Defender 22T or 22SST? Maybe you are experiencing a common problem with any .22 gun: the ammo you are shooting with.

MPA22SST

.22LR ammo, due to the inconsistencies in shape, velocity, type, propellant, cases, etc. makes choosing ammo that will perform perfectly in a blowback designed weapon quite challenging. Combine this with the fact that you start off with ammo that comes from lots that can and do differ and you can see why firing any .22LR weapon consistently without failure is difficult.

MasterPiece Arms has shipped thousands of MPA22 pistols since their introduction in the spring of 2010. We occasionally receive calls from customers with feed issues, jams or other ammo related problems. Some have even returned the gun for repair due to one of these issues. Without fail, the guns returned have no issues and test fire without failure when loaded properly with one of the ammo choices shown below. We video tape each test, return the gun to the customer with our results and a copy of the video and typically, no further problems exist.

We spent months testing various grades of ammo that work best with the MPA22. Our ammo information, including the approved ammo list, is below.

We recommend new (not reloaded) quality ammunition. Quality ammunition helps to assure consistent performance. For best performance, we recommend the Ammo listed below. Due to the nature of the design of the MPA22's (designed originally as a Sub-Machine Gun), compression rates, timing, spring pressure, bullet geometry and profile, lubricity of the bullet and cartridge, and other factors, use of any ammo not on the approved list will cause less reliable feed/firing performance.

  • Federal Series 745 Value Pack .22LR, Copper Plated HP, 1260 FPS, 36 Grain
  • CCI Stingers, .22LR, High Velocity, Copper Plated HP, 1640 FPS, 32 Grain

Subsonic Ammo will not function properly in our weapon. Do not attempt to use this type ammo on any MPA Defender 22.

Withstand Carbon Build Up with the MGI Super 2X M16 Recoil Spring

There is nothing more frustrating than having a good day on the range with your favorite AR style rifle then the familiar carbon build-up resulting in loss of accuracy or a malfunctioning rifle. What if this rifle is your personal defense weapon? No amount of cursing is going to get it back in action, especially when you are the center of the action. MG Industries President and CEO, Mack Gwinn, recognized the problem before it became a problem and developed the MGI Super 2X M16 recoil spring. This unique spring stores twice the strength and energy of a standard Mil-SPEC recoil spring and can withstand the usual carbon build up resulting in consistent accuracy and no failures! Plus an added benefit is that the 2X Recoil Spring does not have that annoying "cheap spring boing" sound! MSRP $29.95 online.
