Greetings!
March is generally known as the month that comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Moving from the animal kingdom, this month generally means engineers, marketers and sales people are starting to think about 2012 new products. They are roaring with new ideas for new products now but by the end of the month when the nice weather beckons, all (except those dogged engineers) will be finding any excuse to get outside and to the range. And if they are not, they should be. Generally product development can take months and sometimes years. But every year manufacturers rush to meet the Shot Show deadline with new products and then have nothing available until months (if not years again) later. I've suggested many times to new clients that SHOT Show need not be the deadline for new product introduction. Yes, the big boys will always make a splash with something shiny that goes bang, but for the rest of our industry, many should consider new product launches at other times of the year. When the wire is quiet, it's time to strike and you'll make a more effective splash. Publications are more likely to provide you with great coverage when you decide to get out of the pack. Your launch ad will most likely be placed in a prime position!
But of course, this is just the opinion of a 20-year marketing vet. I'd love to hear some feedback from our media friends on what they would recommend to manufacturers that would help them make the most of one of the most important events in their company's history - THE PRODUCT LAUNCH!

LaserLyte® Gives You the Power of the Laser in the Boardroom and Beyond |
The last trip of the Space Shuttle Discovery that is currently going on made me a little reflective. I'm sure the team on mission STS-133 will be feeling a bit sentimental and jotting down their thoughts. Hopefully they packed their LaserLyte Modern Laser Pointer (TLP-1) integrating laser pointer technology with Fisher Space pen high-tech ink in one cool compact defensive tool. This pen will write smoothly in zero gravity, severe cold and heat, underwater and, well - yeah - in space. The astronauts could utilize the class IIIA laser pointer powered by two A76 batteries for a full two hours of constant on. But you don't have to be a space cowboy to enjoy all the features this unique Modern Laser Pointer provides. Next time you are Captain of the Marketing meeting you can use the laser to point out those very important statements on your PowerPoint presentation and use the ink pen simultaneously to write the names of those napping staffers. With an MSRP of only $99.95, LaserLyte gives you the power of the laser in the boardroom and beyond. |

The KODABOW Tactical Crossbow
A Review by Waysun Johnny Tsai |
"You will find no other crossbow available today that has the unique set of features in combination with the superior craftsmanship and use of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques that are built into a Kodabow hunting crossbow.
This crossbow is made to hunt and to shoot with high accuracy."
- Chuck Matasic, President and Kodabow Hunter
Fairly recently I received a call that most martial artists would answer the phone for. It was a call from a casting director from the Spike Television Network. He was calling about their hit series "The Deadliest Warrior."
He said that I was referred by a mutual friend Snake Blocker and that they might be interested in casting me in an upcoming episode for the new season.
Of course I was extremely interested and over the next few weeks I had auditioned for them via video and Skype. They seemed to like me; at least I thought so as we were in contact almost every other day. Then after they asked me about my background, they asked if I could shoot, if I could use a halberd or a cross bow. Of course I answered yes to all of the above, even though my only experience with a crossbow was with a $30 hand crossbow pistol from the Bud-K catalog, a far cry from a 15th century hand cranked beast.
So as I got off the phone from my call, I thought to myself "Dammit Johnny, a crossbow? Really? You are going to look like an ass on TV." So of course, being the eternal student that I am, I picked up the phone and called my PR guy Eric Burgess and said "Eric, I need to learn how to use a crossbow fast." Luckily for me, Laura Burgess Marketing also represents a crossbow manufacturer, Kodabow, and Eric made a couple of calls to get me on track.
Long story short, Chuck Matasic, CEO of Kodabow, shot me an email asking what I would need and how soon I would need it. Within a few short days I got this long box in the mail, I open it up and wow...this thing is bad. Bad as in bad ass 185lb crossbow on a AR -15 stock with a 3 dot scope...but also bad as in "damn, I am going to have to put this thing together and learn how to shoot it." Luckily, Chuck emailed me some 411 on this bad boy.
Read the full article to find how Johnny handled the crossbow and if he made it onto The Deadliest Warrior. |

Morphix Technologies Wants Your Feedback |
Hi Friends, this is Kim Chapman and I'm the VP of Morphix Technologies. We need your help.
First, let me be painfully honest - we are a company of geeks - mainly chemist geeks, including yours truly. We developed the Chameleon for the military - they were looking for low cost chemical detection for toxic industrial chemicals for the soldier; NOT the trained CBRN soldier but the infantry soldier. They are using the Chameleon in the "hot spots" - you already know them...one starts with an A and the other with an I.
So here's my question - does the Chameleon have a place with the first responder? Which ones? How would you use it?
Please send your feedback to me at KChapman@morphtec.com. Thank you! |
