By the time this newsletter comes out we will have a different America - or not. The election season this year has been more about personalities, quasi-belief systems and the ability to rapidly spend money than about issues. Like everyone else, we get tired of hearing the same old, dusted off speeches with a bit of new bedazzling glued on, but issues haven't changed. The country still needs jobs. Jobs don't come from the government. They come from you and me. They come from that great idea over a few beers. They come from that dang thingy that isn't working but if I somehow use this or do this, voila, a new business is born. Jobs come from our garages, our kitchens, our basements, our dreams. That's what made this country to begin with. People came from all over to start a business or work in a job that was unavailable in their country. That is still the case. Don't let anyone tell you that any government creates jobs. That is unless you lived in the USSR or China. We, the people of the United States of America, create jobs. We have been creating our futures for generations and we can do it again. This month, LBM dedicates this newsletter to all the companies below that started with a dream - maybe in a garage, or a basement, or a kitchen.

Methamphetamine has become the number one drug of choice for abusers since the 1980's, surpassing cocaine. The meteoric rise in use is due largely to its common place ingredients, ease of manufacture and low costs. Illegal production in small labs using homemade recipes increased rapidly in a little over ten years. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) spearheaded legislation since 1986 to track sales of the chemicals that are used to manufacture the drug that are normally found in over-the-counter cold and cough remedies. In 2005, Congress passed the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act, requiring any medications with pseudoephedrine be kept behind the pharmacy counter and sentences for meth traffickers toughened. By 2006, a U.N. World Drug Report cites over 26 million meth addicts in the world; the number of addicts equals the combined number for cocaine and heroin users. The United States, in 2006, had 1.4 million meth users.
This growing and disturbing trend impacts the infrastructure and services of small towns, suburbs and cities across America at an alarming rate. The chemicals used are highly toxic and explosive. Addicts modify recipes and manufacturing methods to escape detection by law enforcement. The "Clandestine Laboratory" otherwise known as the "old mobile home in the back of the field" is no longer the only manufacturer in town anymore. Now, when a cop pulls over a vehicle, they no longer have to worry if they'll get sideswiped by another motorist, they have to consider the driver is doing a little "Shake and Bake" in the back seat, courtesy of a plastic 2-liter soda bottle. Or worse yet, that backpack sitting by the road so innocent, as if a child forgot to take it on the bus, may be a Backpack Lab waiting for its dealer to pick it up.  The frightening thing about these statistics and growing drug epidemic is often what hurts or kills you is not pointing a gun at you. It's Phosphine, Hydrogen Sulfide, Ammonia, and Hydrogen Chloride. Lewis began his career as a U.S. Army Reconnaissance Scout. He served as a Scout Section Sergeant during Operation Uphold Democracy and Operation Tropical Eagle. He also served as a Team Leader and Instructor for the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service, Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program (ATAP), training foreign Counter-Terrorist units and Presidential Protective units in over 13 countries.
Lewis has been a Protective Agent and Instructor for the U.S. Department of State, High Threat Protection Program, training in firearms and protective operations. He also was an Adjunct Instructor for the NRA Law Enforcement Activities Division, where he taught Instructor Development courses around the country.
During his Law Enforcement career, Lewis was a Patrolman, Firearms Instructor and a Field Training Officer. He served in Narcotics, Fugitive Apprehension and S.W.A.T.

An Officer Says Thank You to BLACKHAWK! | |
I wanted to say thank you for designing a top notch retention holster. I am a police officer with the Tampa Police Department and purchased the SERPA Level III holster for my Sig Sauer P226. I purchased this holster a while ago when they first were offered. I wanted something which offered more security and was very glad I did.
Approximately a year ago, I became involved in incident where the subject tried, several different times, to disarm me. I encountered him after he fled from officers. I caught up to him behind a garage and confronted him. As I attempted to arrest him, the fight was on. During this struggle the subject attempted, several different ways, to unholster my gun. I used several different techniques to stop his actions however he continued. At one point, he was able to flip the hood up. The second retention feature kept the gun locked in place. The holster, absolutely, did its job. It prevented all his attempts to disarm me and I owe my safety to its retention. Two fingers to his eyes eventually stopped the fight and, in the mean time, the holster kept the firearm locked in place. I recently got issued a firearm with a light attached. I am hoping that Blackhawk makes a holster to fit it. The issued Safariland holster is nice however I swear by the SERPA! Thanks for designing a holster that assures the safety of police officers.
