With Labor Day behind us and the kids back in school, it is becoming quite clear that the cool days of fall will soon be upon us, if they aren't already here. With fall comes what everyone loves - no, not candy from Halloween or mom's pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving - I'm talking about preparing for the 2011 SHOT SHOW. It's time to make sure our new products will be ready in time, that we have our press kits in the stages of development and our hotel and flight reservations booked. BLACKHAWK!® Initial Response Gear Developed To Support First Responders Missions
 
H HarnessBLACKHAWK! has designed a series of Initial Response packs, belts, harnesses and vests that support the critical demands of first responders. The BLACKHAWK! Initial Response Gear includes modular items that are compatible with other gear in the Initial Response product line allowing the responder to create a system specific to the situation or mission. The Initial Response "H" Harness is compatible with the Initial Response Web Belt and both can be supporting platforms for other modular items. The "H" Harness helps to distribute the weight of the web belt and with padded shoulder straps allow for greater comfort when carrying heavier loads. Both the harness and belt feature reflective grey piping. USA Walks Away with 24 Medals, 5 Olympic Quotas and 4 World Records at 50th ISSF World Championship
 
ISSF World Champ LogoThe 50th ISSF World Shooting Championship in Munich, Germany, held July 29th-August 10, 2010, was the biggest and most competitive match of the 2012 quad. The USA Shooting Team finished third overall in the medal standings with 24 medals: eleven gold, six silver and seven bronze. 
 
The USA Team had 12 shooters qualifying for finals in Olympic events resulting in three individual medals and securing five Olympic quotas.  The success of junior shooters was particularly impressive with over half of the 24 medals being won in the junior events with 14 medals.  The U.S. Team accounted for four of the 27 world records established or equaled at the championship with new marks in Jr. Women's Team 3 x 20 Rifle, Women's 3 x 20 Rifle, Double Trap Team and equaling the world record (with final) in Double Trap.

Sea TurtlesMy pal, Lisa Metheny, and I got up before dawn and headed out to Orange Beach last May to meet the Turtle Tsar, Mike Reynolds. We were in Alabama, courtesy of the Alabama Gulf Coast CVB, to fish and report about the current state of the Gulf and its waters.

Reynolds pointed to a place in the sand, cordoned off and marked as a sea turtle nest. "There's 127 eggs in there." He said we were looking at the first nest of the season. Later in the season, he would know how many eggs were in each nest.

From May through October, sea turtles come out of the water. You can tell it's a turtle in the sand, because its tracks look like a tractor wheel. Loggerhead turtles make most of the nests, but an occasional Kemps Ridley comes ashore to lay her eggs. When Metheny and I were there, the Gulf Coast braced itself for the eventual arrival of the oil spill. With predominantly easterly winds at that time, the nearest heavy oil lay 100 miles away.

Built upon a complete MARCK-15 base system ready to fire out of the box, the Hydra system includes the Modular Lower Receiver with a 5.56mm Magazine-Well, the QCB-C Upper Receiver and a 16-inch barrel. From this base system, you can purchase and utilize the rest of ever-growing system including various magazine wells and caliber conversions. Change standard barrels in seconds without tools and utilize the correct magazine for the chosen caliber. Simple as changing just a bolt and barrel on this system, the user will be able to fire seven plus calibers including .22, .223 or 5.56, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, .450 Thumper, .458 SOCOM and the .50 Beowulf.
The MARCK-15 also, known as the Hydra, comes in a 7.62x39 AK47 configuration that takes standard AK-47 magazines. All configurations of this weapons system allow for the conversion to different configurations or caliber using standard barrels and magazines. Additional systems include the .45 Hybrid, M3 (Grease Gun) and LE in .45, 9mm and .40 LE (using Glock magazines), 7.62x25 and the .45 Super Mag (.460) gas operated, the AR .223, 6.8 SPC and many others. Further configuration possibilities are available with several magazine wells and caliber
conversions already available, and many more coming into production, this weapon system continues to grow and become the most versatile Black Rifle platform the industry has ever seen.
