Greetings!

Trainers Command Post LogoThey call this time of year the Summer Doldrums. It seems everywhere you go and everything you do has caught a bit of the "lazies." In the good old days, this meant porch swing time and lemonade glasses sweating as much as you. For kids, this is prime time. For business, it's hang on for your life because the lazies seem to have taken on sales. Business takes a little nap now. But don't get yourself lulled to sleep in that hammock just yet. There are some exciting things happening in our industry. We've got some great new product launches to talk about in the next week or two and one from LBM we are officially launching now - Trainers Command Post.

This was an idea long coming. For years, we have talked and worked with many trainers in our industry and have had the opportunity to get some tips from the best. Whether its sporting clays, personal defense or SWAT training, we all know that shared knowledge makes us better at our sport and our jobs. But all the trainers I have known appear to work 24/7 and haven't the time or resources to productively market themselves.  Hence, the creation of Trainers Command Post, where qualified trainers in a variety of fields can post stories, tips, tactics, techniques, videos, classes and anything else they can think of for free. Yep, free. Now, it's your turn to help us build this site with your content and we'll take care of your marketing for you.

Talking with Heroes

Talking with Heroes
Bob Calvert is a very soft spoken man with an incredible mission. He films our troops and unlike what we see on the news every night, these videos give you a real idea of what life is like for our men and women. He is about to embed again; his fourth time! Bob is heading over to Iraq and Afghanistan to report on what we NEVER see on the news - the transition that is occurring over there as our troops work with the local people to set up governing areas, schools, hospitals, police stations, roads and other vital infrastructure. We are on a campaign to increase the viewership he receives on his YouTube site and donations are accepted to help him and his crew make these videos available to us all. Find out more about Talking with Heroes on his website.

Revision Eyewear and the Prism Effect

As many of you know, LBM recently moved. And during this ordeal, we tossed a bunch of stuff, but still at the last minute some piles were just tossed on the truck and made it down south. One of those piles was our eyewear pile. It consists of found sunglasses, my Jackie-O shades, Walmart readers, shop glasses, shooting glasses and a couple of pairs of Revision Hellflys and Sawflys (my fav shooting glasses). So, now they have a drawer, but before they had to pass the "LBM-will-I-ever-wear-again" test.

Here's something interesting I found and when I went on the Revision site, I understood better what I found. I had sunglasses and protective eyewear that when worn gave me a funny picture. By that I mean that things I was looking at were not where they were supposed to be. Kinda made me feel like I had a cocktail instead of coffee for breakfast. This may not be a big deal when I just want to look like a fashion icon (although running into walls ruins the overall image), but it makes a tremendous difference when shooting at something. You may think you're aiming at a clay target or even a still target, but in actuality you are so off base.

This is called the Prism Effect.

Prism Effect

I went back and forth between a pair of shooting glasses I had laying around and my Revision Sawflys and the results were amazing. Because of the way Revision designs and makes their lenses - what you see is what you are looking at - targets included. Needless to say I tossed all the glasses that had this prism effect. If you don't know what I'm talking about, call or email me. Let's get a pair of Revision Sawfly shooting glasses in your hands. Go out and shoot some skeet or plink away at a paper target. Change out glasses from what you have been using to the Revisions, then tell me about your findings. Not only do Revision glasses save lives on the battlefield, they'll make you a better shooter.

Now where did I put those Walmart readers??
The BLACKHAWK SERPA Holster Feeling Home on the Farm

Getting feedback from customers is always very important to any company. Here's a BLACKHAWK! Customer that has found that a SERPA holster can be mounted just about anywhere:

Dear Sir or Madam:

serpaMy name is Gary Farley and I own Farley's Firearms in Goldthwaite, Texas.  I am also a police officer and thought you might like to see how we use your SERPA Holsters for reasons other than the obvious.  We live in the edge of the hill country here in Texas and have Deer, Turkey, and other varmatilla in or near our yard. Any time my wife or I leave the house, using the mower or the Mule, we place a Glock with a laser or a Colt Combat Commander in the SERPA Holster. These holsters are the best at preventing a pistol from accidentally falling out and winding up on the ground. These pistols are loaded with CCI snake shot just in case we run across a varmatilla while out on the property. Thought you might tell others in marketing about how easy it is to install the SERPA Holster on farm vehicles.

Thanks for your time.

Making Crossbows in 2010

News from Kodabow ...... we are now very pleased to shift emphasis towards putting bows out in the field with hunters and shooters. We will be at the Pennsylvania Crossbow Festival later this month on July 25th and are now engaging dealers who are interested in representing Kodabow in local markets.

KodabowOur West Chester, PA Distribution Center is up and running and final assembly and shipment is beginning to occur there. Major components are produced primarily in Lancaster, PA and the surrounding area. Places like Chester, Thorndale, Mountville, Exton but also in other states like Michigan, Indiana, Utah and Wisconsin. We are encouraged to see jobs being created right here in the US. In this economy, it is not easy. We have a healthy respect for folks in business who are making their way. We can also say that we participated in no government giveaways or loans. No bailouts either. Just hard work.
Sentry Solutions BP2000 Powder:
Because Bowling Balls are no Match for Marbles

If you asked what Sentry Solutions' BP2000 Powder is and you received the answer that it is "a pure powdered sub-micron, passivated molybdenum disulfide lubricant with a natural bonding + H4 affinity for metal" you might just say "huh?"

BP2000 PowderYeah, me too, but you pull a trigger treated with BP2000 Powder and you'll say "Oh Yeah!" So allow me to enlighten you on this interesting product, just one of many from Sentry Solutions line-up of products based on dry film technology. Basically, BP2000 Powder puts a dry bonded film of lubrication on the metal surface for trigger jobs, bolts, rails, slides, bores, and hammer and sear trigger systems for smoother and lighter trigger pulls.

Still not getting the picture? I like this description right from Sentry's website: Think of BP2000 Powder particles as if they were marbles compared to graphite particles the size of bowling balls. If you covered a floor with both, no matter how many you spread on a floor, there will always be gaps between the larger balls. Whereas BP2000 Powder, being comprised of sub-micron particles, would be the equivalent of covering that same floor with marbles. Gaps between the particles would be smaller and you'd get much better coverage.

World Champion Elk Caller: 5 Tips for Better Elk Hunting
 By Kevin Paulson

Rocky Mountain

For elk hunters who'd like to be better elk callers, there are few mentors more qualified today than Joel Turner, reigning and two-time champion of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation/Leupold World Elk Calling Championships.
Turner, 33, of Eatonville, Wash., won his second world title in three years at the March event held as part of RMEF's Annual Elk Camp & Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor Expo.

A police officer and state firearms instructor by trade, Turner also is a devout elk nut, bowhunter, guide, naturalist and call maker. He's spent the past several years developing an elk calling philosophy and hunting system-some of it based on tactical theory-that has consistently produced bulls in multiple states.
Read more here to find out Turner's 5 Tips for better elk calling and hunting.

Visible Assets RuBee FAQ Answered

In the past few newsletters, we've been talking about the RuBee technology or wireless visible technology developed by Visible Assets. A couple comments came in regarding gun tags. Everyone gets nervous when the concept of gun tagging is raised. Well, I'm here to calm your fears regarding VAI's RuBee Gun Tags.  First they are built in to the weapon, usually the grip, so there is no bulky add-on that will decrease the effectiveness of the weapon or require the user to learn anything. The tags are MIL-STD-810G which means they can endure salt spray, be submerged under 66 ft of water (Navy SEALs anyone?) and do not react to solvents (23 identified). The tags must also endure 20,000 round testing and survive a shock machine. RuBee tags do all that and more, including working at temperatures below 50°C.

RuBee Gun Tag

Now, why tag guns anyway? Well, if you are a government agency, large armory, or even a manufacturer, isn't it nice to know where your guns are? And the RuBee tags cannot be used by the enemy to target you; now that's a positive for any soldier or secret squirrel. Plus, another benefit of the RuBee gun tags is that they can provide the armory or the manufacturer with critical information on the gun's health. But, we'll wait until the next newsletter for how that works! For more on RuBee visit the press room at www.rubee.com/press.
