Issue 38

Greetings!

It's time to let the cat out of the bag. If you haven't heard yet, LBM has decided to relocate our headquarters to New Bern, NC effective July 1st. We've had seven great years of running this company in Portsmouth, NH and we've loved every minute of it, however, it is time for a change, and although we will surely miss Portsmouth, we are very excited about relocating and the opportunities this will bring us.

We will have limited availability from today, June 30th through July 5th as we focus on relocating and setting up the new office. Eric, Ashley and myself will all be available by cell phone during these dates. Regular business hours will resume on July 6th. Please stay tuned for our new mailing address and wish us luck as we head on south!
SIG SAUERŪ Academy New England Regional RugerŪ Rimfire Series Wrap Up

Shooter ReadyOver 100 shooters came out to the acclaimed SIG SAUER Academy to try their hand at rimfire speed shooting during the New England Regional Ruger Rimfire Challenge. The steel shooting event sponsored by Ruger, is designed to get people involved in the shooting sports. True to its intent, the event was attended by new shooters young and old, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, and even some families with three generations competing. Shooters had to negotiate 6 stages of 5 steel targets each. Scoring was the total time it took run each stage 5 times, with the worst time being discarded per stage. The SIG SAUER Academy's competition range complex is ideally suited to host matches, and the Rimfire Challenge was the 2nd match of the busy summer season. The next match scheduled is July 31st, when team SIG Captain and world champion speed shooter Max Michel, Jr. will be in attendance for another steel match.

Congratulations to Paul Dandini, the Overall Match Winner and the Division Winners. The top 5 shooters are listed per division.

Endless Co-Branding Possibilites with Sentry Solutions

For many companies, co-branded products are tools to extend the brand experience into the market place. With marketing budgets shrinking, the need for co-branded products with a greater shelf life is more important than ever. The cute or quirky item is often thrown away or lost in a drawer; money and brand awareness down the drain. Sentry Solutions, the developer of dry film lubricants and protectants, provides the answer to companies looking for long-lasting, cost-effective promotional items. Whether the market is firearms, knives, tools, fishing tackle or outdoor gear, proper care is always a priority.  Sentry Solutions offers products in a variety of configurations to meet the needs and budgets of any marketing campaign.

The popular Tuf-Cloth™ 3.5" x 3.5" package featuring the re-usable 4" x 4" oil free cloth provides high visibility co-branding opportunities for trade shows, mass-mailings and inclusion in product packaging. Tuf-Cloths can also be co-branded in a variety of hard sided packaging/jars for even longer life.

Promo PicThe Sentry Solutions Co-Branded Tin Kit is an exceptional branding product that is scalable to the customer's needs. Large or small tin kits with your brand, logo or messaging can be configured to meet a variety of uses from firearms to fishing tackle.

Another Sentry Solutions item that has longevity is the durable fabric pouch kit. Like the tin kits, these too are scalable and malleable to target different markets and uses. Your customers will use these Kits again and again all the while being exposed to your brand.

Now, more than ever, partnering with the right co-branded product company will create long term brand awareness and customer loyalty. Anyone that owns firearms, knives, fishing and outdoor gear needs products that will guarantee the quality of performance of their gear. Sentry Solutions products keep metal surfaces free from dirt, rust and corrosion without leaving behind an oily, dust-attracting film. Your customers will appreciate a co-branded product that extends the life and their enjoyment of your products while keeping your brand in front of them.

Sentry Solutions products, like the reusable, re-sealable and multi-functional Tuf-Cloth™; Hi-Slip Grease™, Smooth-Kote™, Tuf-Glide™, and BP 2000 Powder™ are used by military, law enforcement, manufacturers, and firearms/knives/outdoor gear owners everywhere because Sentry Solution's dry film lubricants and protectants do not attract dirt like oil-based products do. This is the main reason why more than 60,000 troops used Sentry Solutions' Oil-Free Gun Care during the War on Terror. Don't work harder cleaning and protecting your investment, work smarter!

It's never too early to start thinking about the upcoming trade show season. For more information on products, pricing and endless co-branding possibilities contact Sentry Solutions at 800-546-8049 or mark@sentrysolutions.com.
KodaBow: One Opinion - Illuminated Optics

Everyone sees things differently. When it comes to illuminated optics, it is evident that green or red illuminated reticles have a certain "cool factor". This is always true when friends are checking out your latest hunting tool.

But what happens in the field may be another story. When circumstances permit, perform the following test. Be in the field during the last 10 minutes of legal shooting time. In many states, the legal shooting time extends to 30 minutes after sunset. Deer should be in range from your stand at 10, 20, 30 or 40 yards.

Switch back and forth between the illuminated reticle and the straight black line of a glass etched reticle or wire reticle. See how easy or difficult it is for you to distinguish the animal profile, ear movement or antler configuration. As each minute ticks by, make a mental note about visibility. Every person is different but our experience suggests that there is an element of "washout" from the illumination feature that can actually decrease overall visibility during those last magic 10 minutes at the end of the day. It might be better for many hunters to have the illumination turned off and use their eyesight to pick up the black line reticle. The moral of the story --- do a little personal scientific testing for yourself to optimize your setup at last light.

Hunting the Truth

Terror in the Laundry Room

It was mid-afternoon, when I got to my folks house with Fergus in tow after his pickup from the airport ("New Grandparents"). I often stayed there during the week, especially when I had a league sporting clays shoot or when I rolled from the Friday night shift at Blue Ridge Arsenal to the morning shift on Saturday. It was just easier than driving all the way back and forth to Fredericksburg and Henry's house, which was more than a forty-five mile drive from the store in Chantilly. Besides Mom and Dad and I had finally gotten to a place where we actually enjoyed each other's company as adults, so a few nights there with a meal I didn't have to cook and dishes I didn't have to wash were more than a good thing. And now, with Fergus, it was almost as if I'd brought home the grandchild my mother had wished for over the years.

Too, I was at peace, and it wasn't just because I had a new pup in my arms. Everyone gets wishy-washy marshmallow soft over puppies. But never before had I waited so long for a puppy; it was almost as if I'd had a five-month pregnancy. Even more than the long and dragged-out anticipation, though, it was this pup. Ever since that frigid day hunting birds in Maryland ("Birddog Bliss,"  "Quail, Pointing Dogs, and a Near Redneck Experience," and "Planted Birds, Sporting Clays, and Oyster Stew"), I knew it was bird hunting and birddogs that were going to capture my soul, that would be the reigning passion in my life. So this puppy was to be the headstream of it all, my first, my cherished one. I was utterly, truly, hopelessly in love, and my life as I wanted it to be had started.
