Greetings!
February may be a short month but it started off with a bang here at LBM. First, Ashley received certification from Social Media Magic University, so when you work with her on any of the social media platforms such at Twitter, FaceBook or YouTube, you are dealing with a qualified consultant! Of course, immediately after, she was dumped on by the "snowpocalypse" of 2010 in Maryland, but we can expect that after she shovels the tons of snow off her car, she'll be right back at work. And that better be soon since LBM is proud to announce the addition of two more family members. Proforce Equipment, a Miami-based company specializing in the import and distribution of military and outdoor equipment, and the exclusive North American importer of SNUGPAK products, and Bob Walker's Sportmens' Outdoor Strategies and related products. Both companies are looking to enhance their brand through traditional PR and our social media offerings. As soon as we get them set up on FaceBook, we'll invite you to join! Congrats to Ed Noonan, our Writer Survey Winner! Ed is a freelance outdoor writer and member of POMA, OWAA and the New York Outdoors Writer Association. With Valentine's Day right around the corner, why not forgo the box of chocolates and order up a SIG SAUER 6PAK for your honey. Nothing says love more than a SIG. |
BLACKHAWK! Enters Fire and EMS Markets |
No sooner than the dust from the ceiling of the Sands Expo settles, after we all return from SHOT, BLACKHAWK! is busy getting ready for their next product line-up in a brand new market. I talked with Terry Naughton, VP of Marketing for BLACKHAWK!, about this new market and what we can expect in 2010.
LBM: I see from your website that BLACKHAWK! is entering the Fire / Rescue / EMS market. What made you decide to enter this market?
Terry: The decision was two-fold. First, customers were requesting product specific items for the Fire / Rescue / EMS market. These customers were not only individuals within the field, but also several of our national retailers had asked us to put more focus on this market. Second, the Fire / Rescue / EMS market is a natural progression from our current law enforcement and military markets. Customers from the Fire / Rescue / EMS markets were already purchasing BLACKHAWK! products that easily transitioned into their market.
LBM: What kinds of products can we expect to see from BLACKHAWK for fire and EMS personnel?
Terry: You can expect to see traditional nylon bags and cases specifically designed for the Fire / Rescue / EMS market. You will also see an expansion of our apparel line, more casual wear and "station wear", plus new entry tools that support fire extraction, and to round things out - handheld tools such as knives and flashlights.
LBM: Are there certain standards in apparel or nylon gear specific to this market?
Terry: There are. Certain items must be designed to meet ANSI specifications for safety, wear, etc. Some standards will pertain to our station wear, in which the clothing must be made of cotton. Other standards will be additional color choices for the nylon gear as well as incorporating reflective tape. BLACKHAWK!'s research and development group, as well as design group, have done considerable research and testing already for compliance in all the products that we will offer in this market.
LBM: Where will you debut your new line?
Terry: BLACKHAWK! will debut their new Fire / Rescue / EMS line at the FDIC Show, April 19 - 24, 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. We will be at booth 3557 and hope everyone stops by to see the new gear and apparel and tools. We will also have a new catalog just for our Fire/Rescue and EMS customers. You can order it right online at www.blackhawk.com. |

Sentry Solutions Spring Time Firearms Readiness or Trigger Tuning with SMOOTH-KOTE and BP2000 Powder |
By using Sentry Solutions SMOOTH-KOTE and BP2000 Powder products together, friction is reduced by 20% compared to oil. This fact becomes important if your trigger is already light (1-4 lbs. range) as you may not want to lighten it any more. If this is your case then use the SMOOTH-KOTE on its own. Simply apply SMOOTH-KOTE to the clean residue free surfaces of the hammer, sear and any other moving parts. Then check your trigger pull.
If you decide you want it lighter, apply BP2000 Powder on top of the SMOOTH-KOTE. SMOOTH-KOTE is a proprietary mix of the best available dry film lubricants in fast drying, residue free alcohol. The alcohol carrier provides cleaning action then evaporates, allowing the lubricants to bond to the metals surface. This bonding assures long-lasting effectiveness. BP2000 Powder is a specialty dry powdered lubricant. SMOOTH-KOTE and BP2000 Powder are designed to work together. BP2000 Powder not only has an affinity for bonding to metal it also bonds to SMOOTH-KOTE. This pair of self-cleaning products gives metal a grime-reducing , non-stick coating so dirt, residues and fouling are easily removed.
TUF-GLIDE should be used on those firearms which have very light custom triggers such as benchrest/precision rifles and competition firearms in general. What you need on these triggers is a lubricant, which will protect the trigger parts from wear and corrosion. TUF-GLIDE and even TUF-CLOTH are great products to use.
If you are able to completely disassemble the trigger you can use TUF-CLOTH to wipe all the surfaces. Use TUF-GLIDE on the hard to reach surfaces and wipe off any excess with TUF-CLOTH or a clean dry rag. HI-SLIP GREASE is great to use on GLOCK and similar triggers.
Use it on any trigger with high load bearing surfaces rather than the sliding action seen in hammer and sear triggers. HI-SLIP GREASE reduces friction, eliminates wear and protects from -65°F to 600°F. This gives you self-healing protection with no migration or spreading problem. It stays right where you put it. |
