ANNUAL FACILITY MAINTENANCE

It's that time again -- time for us to do annual maintenance so we can provide you a bright and clean facility for another year. In addition to general cleaning and painting, maintenance will include:

  • Deep-cleaning the pool deck
  • Refinishing the floors in the Group Exercise Room and the Gymnasium
  • Deep-cleaning wellness equipment
  • Replacing carpets in the Adult Locker Rooms

The schedule is as follows:

  • August 30 - 31: Facility will be closed.
  • August 30 - September 4:  Group Exercise Room and Gymnasium will be closed to refinish floors and allow them to cure. An alternative schedule of outside classes wil be posted on August 23.

Look for reminders around the building and alerts on Facebook and Twitter for any updates.

THE SCHOOL BUS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!

What are your children doing after school? In the United States, only 11% -- 6.5 million -- of youth participate in grades K-12 participate in afterschool programs. More than 14 million young people are responsible for taking care of themselves after school.

Quality afterschool programs serve working parents and give kids important opportunities to engage with other youth in an enriching, safe environment, provide academic support and homework help, offer new experiences and activities, and give young people the benefit of positive adult role models invested in their success.

 BRIGHT BEGINNINGS CREATE BRIGHT FACES
We at the Y strongly believe that children who have the necessities they need to succeed can focus on learning rather than worrying about having shoes to wear on the playground or crayons to color their assignments.

The Bright Beginnings program pairs eligible children with a volunteer to shop for outfits, shoes, socks, underwear, and a warm sweater or jacket. They also share a meal and, if time permits, read a story, play a game, or color together. Each child also receives a backpack full of school supplies.
There is no cost to the families of participating children. We rely on the generosity of individuals, organizations, and corporations. $175 supports one child.
You can help! Donate -- any amount makes a difference -- or volunteer to be a shopping buddy. It takes less than three hours of your time to put a bright smile on a child's face and confidence in his step. Shopping this year will be at the Marquis Center JCPenney on August 23rd.

Please contact Caitlyn O'Hara, Youth and Family Services Director, for more information at 757.229.9622 or caitlyn.ohara@peninsulaymca.org.
