IMPACT MAGAZINE

Have you received your copy of IMPACT, the Y's new magazine?  You probably received one in the mail recently and we hope you will hang onto it because, in the middle of the magazine, you'll find a pull-out Program Catalog that lists the descriptions and locations of all spring and summer Y programs.

Use the Program Catalog together with the Program Schedules that you'll find online on our branch website or, simply click on this link. The Program Schedules list all the program specifics like: dates, times, ages, locations, and registration.

Do you have a wonderful Y story about how the Y has had an impact in your life? Do you want your story to be featured in IMPACT? Email letters@peninsulaymca.org , include your name, contact information and tell us your story. IMPACT will be published three times a year.

HEALTHY KIDS DAY

Make sure you mark your calendar and bring the family for Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 16, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 P.M. at the WISC (Williamsburg Indoor Soccer Complex) at 5700 Warhill Trail.  This event will also be in conjunction with WJCC Park and Rec's opening ceremonies for the baseball season.

Healthy Kids Day is an action-packed national YMCA event designed to promote healthy living and activity. There will be lots to do including two bounce-houses, an obstacle course, hoola-hoops, jump ropes and many other activities and games.

This will be a fun day for all so make sure to be there!

HELPING YOUR COMMUNITY

Did you know that the YMCA is a charitable organization?  Your contributions do many things to help those in need.

  • $80 provides a child with one week of quality child care
  • $150 provides one child a complete back-to-school Bright Beginnings experience
  • $250 allows youth and teens opportunities to develop leadership and social skills through sports and teen programming
  • $500 teaches ten children life-saving skills through swim lessons
  • $1000 helps provide families the benefit of Y membership

For more information about how you can help, contact Caitlynn O'Hara at 229-9622.

WELCOME OUR NEW PROGRAM DIRECTOR!

The R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA would like to welcome our new Program Director, Nick Johansen.  Nick hails from Yorktown where he attended Grafton High School and was very active with baseball, various sports and activities.  After high school, Nick earned a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management and a Master's degree in Recreation and Tourism from Old Dominion University.   He spent the last 2 1/2 years at the Victory Family YMCA coordinating sports programs, contributing to Summer Camp and completing two internships.

Nick grew up in the Y as a participant in School-Age, Summer Camp and Leader's Club programs. The Y's core values have become a personal guide for him.  At R.F.W. he will direct youth and family programs such as School-Age and Summer Camp as well as focus on developing sports programming.

Nick is a huge sports fan and most of his hobbies include playing, watching, and coaching various sports.  Nick says, "I feel there is great opportunity for new programming here at R.F.W. and I look forward to meeting everyone."   Be sure to stop by and greet our newest director!
