Will your Y Get $250,000 for Free Fitness and Wellness Programs?

The Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA has applied for a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project, and the only way we can get it is if you vote for us.  Our project, "Activate the Peninsula," will ensure fitness, nutrition, and cooking education programs for everyone in our community, as well as fitness education for all children in our child care and child/youth watch programs.

Check the Pepsi Refresh website www.refresheverything.com or search Pepsi Refresh on August 1 to see if we are there. To do this:

Click on the above address or search Pepsi Refresh

Click on Browse Ideas and Vote on the right side of the screen

Click on Join Refresh everything in the lower left side of the next screen

Create a login and password and answer a few basic questions on the pop up screen

Click done and you will bounce back to the home page - at this point you've just created your login

Click on Browse Ideas and Vote again and you will be at the voting page

Go to the search box in the upper right corner and type in Activate or Peninsula.

When you see our project in the list- Activate the Peninsula - click on the vote now button

Once you've created your login and password you can bookmark our page and go directly there to vote every day.

We need your vote EVERYDAY in August to make this a reality for our YMCA.   Please share this information with everyone you know - friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbors, and other Y members.  You can share through Facebook and Twitter by hitting the button that appears after you vote.  This project will benefit each Y and the people in each of our communities. We can only win the Pepsi Refresh grant if the community supports our efforts to "Activate the Peninsula."

Any questions? Talk to any staff member at our Y to help you through the process.

Journey to Freedom jtf

Journey to Freedom is an 8-week Christ-centered small group study designed to help you make a change in your life. A failure to lay a proper foundation for change is the number one reason people don't succeed in transforming their life. Journey to Freedom will help you build this critical foundation by providing tools, support and motivation you need to achieve significant and lasting change.

Guided by Journey to Freedom's trained facilitators, you'll learn:
·         What is needed to make real change, and why your
          other attempts have failed.
·         How to lay the foundation to solve any problem and
          achieve any goal.
·         How to silence you inner critic and find your true
          purpose.
·         The difference between intrinsic and extrinsic
          motivation.

"I never realized how many people there were that shared the same issues. It's so freeing to be with others and share our experiences."
-Audrey

Youth Super Sports:
Building Winners for Lifepreschool

At the YMCA, youth sports is as much about
building
character as it is about learning sports skills.

The YMCA introduces Youth Super Sports this fall. Youth Super Sports is the YMCA's new progressive youth sports program that combines the marvelous philosophy of past YMCA youth sports programs with new program concepts. Children learn character values as well as sports skills and tactics by incorporating fun and creative games during every practice. Our "games approach" sessions during each practice are designed to better prepare players for competitions.

There are 3 components to YMCA Super Sports:

YMCA Rookies

Non-competitive, developmental program that teaches young players basic skills and strategies of the sport while incorporating our character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

YMCA Winners

Competitive, unique, values-based sports program for older boys and girls that develops skills and tactics while keeping our character values in play.

YMCA Champions

Designed to motivate youngsters to strive for excellence. It is an innovative, challenging awards program for youth participating in YMCA Winners.

The 7 pillars of Youth Super Sports

Pillar 1 - Everyone Plays

Pillar 2 - Safety First

Pillar 3 - Fair Play

Pillar 4 - Positive Competition

Pillar 5 - Family Involvement

Pillar 6 - Sport for All

Pillar 7 - Sport for Fun

YMCA Youth Super Sports Programs include; Soccer, Flag Football, Basketball, Baseball and T-Ball.

For more information on Youth Super Sports offered see your YMCA Spirit, call or come in and inquire at the Welcome Center, or go to www.peninsulaymca.org.

Don't Miss Out on Your Favorite Classes!

Just a reminder that participation in any of our group classes is not permitted five minutes after class time.  Safety is always a priority at your YMCA.  Having all participants arrive on time for classes ensures that classes can start on time, including a warm up, and prevents overcrowding.

The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development reports that high-quality childcare has a positive and lasting impact on a child's development and future academic and cognitive achievements.  Children who are enrolled in high-quality childcare are less likely to misbehave than their peers who were enrolled in lower quality care.

How does this impact your family?  The R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA is committed to high-quality childcare through its NAEYC Accredited program. We are proud that this program is also a two-year Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA Platinum Cup Award winner.

Registration for the School Age program is currently ongoing. The R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA serves the following area schools: Magruder, Matoaka, Waller Milll, Matthew Whaley, Norge, DJ Montague, Stonehouse and J. Blaine Blayton.  Transportation to school from the YMCA and back to the Y after school is provided.

The R. F. Wilkinson School Age program provides a safe environment where children can make friends, be part of a group, meet physical challenges and know they are liked, respected and appreciated.

Care is provided on most holidays, winter and spring breaks, and inclement weather days.

For more information, or to register, contact Tiffany Pidcock at (757) 229-9622 or at tiffany.pidcock@peninsulaymca.org
