Why Logo
Congratulations Mrs. Tyson!

At the YMCA Child Development Center at Colonial Williamsburg's annual Preschool graduation, our preschool teacher received an amazing honor.  This year marks Valerie Tyson's 20th year as a preschool teacher at the CDC.  The Mayor of Williamsburg, Jeanne Zeidler, presented Mrs. Tyson with a Mayoral Proclamation honoring her twenty years of service to the children of Williamsburg who have had the pleasure of being in Mrs. Tyson's class.  Mrs. Tyson graciously accepted this honor with pride and humility.  The staff and parents at the CDC could not be any more proud of Mrs. Tyson.  We congratulate her as she reaches this milestone and at the same time we hope she has another twenty years left at the YMCA!

Bright Beginnings PhotoBright Beginnings

Bright Beginnings is a YMCA outreach program that provides new clothes and school supplies to children in our community.  This year the R. F. Wilkinson Family YMCA will take 75 local children shopping.  This program embodies our mission statement by building strong kids (self esteem with new supplies and clothing), strong families (help ease a financial burden) and strong communities.

With your help, children in our community will have a bright beginning this school year carrying a new backpack filled with essential school supplies, new clothes and shoes and confidence that will help them be successful.

 Here's how you can help:
1.  Donate. A financial contribution of $50 will provide an
excellent start with backpacks filled with school
supplies.  $150 will sponsor one child.
2.  Become a Backpack Buddy. Purchase a backpack, fill it with
supplies, and drop it off at the YMCA. A list of necessary
supplies is available at the Welcome Center.
3.  Volunteer. Volunteer to shop with a child.  Sign up to attend a
Bright Beginnings Volunteer Orientation on July 21st or July
     22nd from 6 pm - 7 pm.  Shopping dates are August 4th &
     11th.

If you are interested in volunteering in any way, please contact Clare Lorio at 229-9622 ext. 206, clare.lorio@peninsulaymca.org.
