Family Fun Night

Enjoy an evening at the YMCA with the whole family!  Our next Family Fun Night is June 26th from 7 pm - 9 pm.  June's Family Fun Night theme is "Dive In Movie Night".  Families will enjoy a movie in the pool with floats and make a healthy snack.  Activities are free and parents must accompany their children.  See the Welcome Center for more details!

Happy Father's Day!

Father's Day in its present form in the U.S. was created at a meeting at the Spokane, Washington YMCA in 1909 by Louise Smart Dodd. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran who was widowed when his wife died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise his children on a rural farm.

The YMCA and the Spokane Minister's Alliance swiftly endorsed the idea and helped it spread, holding the first Father's Day celebration on June 10, 1910. The Father's Day idea spread rapidly, and in 1924, President Calvin Coolidge called for a national observance.

Today's fathers take an active role in raising their children, joining family activity nights, volunteering with their kids, arranging child care and participating in one-on-one programs. Fathers deserve this day of recognition more than ever before.

This Father's Day, reach out to the fathers in your life.  Enjoy the day by attending a game of one of his favorite sports teams, prepare a simple brunch at home, or spend some time outdoors helping him with that special project he's been working on.  Making dad feel special doesn't have to cost anything, nor does it have to involve food. Grab a pen and a pad of paper and begin listing things you like and appreciate about your dad. Tell him what he does that makes you smile when he's not around.

Summer Day Camp Begins June 22nd!Day Camp Photo

Soon our building will be filled with the happy faces of Summer Day Camp participants.  Children will be busy taking nature walks, tending to our garden, swimming and playing games. Please help us keep our children safe by being aware of children when entering and exiting the parking lot.

TAI CHI is on it's way to the YMCA!

Tai Chi is designed to improve the quality of life.  The Sun style of Tai Chi is designed for people with arthritis; it includes agile steps and exercises that may improve mobility.  The movements in this class do not require extreme bending and squatting, which makes it easier and more comfortable to learn.  Click here: Group Exercise Schedule for dates and times.
