Healthy Kids Day

Would you like to put more Play in Your Day.....with your whole family?  Then join us for the annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18th from 10 am - 12 noon

YMCA Healthy Kids Day brings families and communities together to celebrate healthy living with a fun, free and empowering day of active play and resources for healthier living.  Families will enjoy engaging activities, fitness fun and healthy snacks.  Local agencies will provide car seat and bicycle safety checks as well as nutrition and health information.

Our joining fee for new member will be waived on this day, so bring your friends and neighbors along!

Volunteering at the YMCA

We know that it's important to share our time, talent and/or treasure with our community, regardless of how broadly or closely we define that community.  And you needn't look any further than your YMCA for opportunities to share your gifts.  From volunteering to coach a youth sports team, helping with YMCA Healthy Kids Day, assisting with office work, reading to our preschool children or making a monetary contribution to our Strong Communities Campaign, there are hosts of ways to involve yourself with your YMCA.

To inquire how your might share your time at the R. F. Wilkinson Family YMCA please contact Clare.Lorio@peninsulaymca.org or Christine.Moore@peninsulaymca.org.
Stay On Track For
A  Healthy 2009!

If you are trying to become more active and are looking to incorporate healthier choices into your lifestyle, start small, and mix it up.  We all have habits that are tough to break, and by trying to make all those healthful changes at once, we can set ourselves up for frustration and failure.  It's OK to make big changes through small steps.  Try any of these small changes:
     · Add just one fruit or vegetable and one glass of water to
       your diet each day.
     · Add a short after-dinner walk to your routine once or twice
       a week.
     · Use smaller plates and bowls to avoid large portions.
     · Ask the restaurant to remove the bread basket after
       you've enjoyed one treat.
     · Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
     · Don't watch the kids play, play with them!
     · If there's a food you love, don't deprive yourself.  Keep the
portion small and savor every bite.
YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice
through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
