Join your local CSA!
|
UPDATE: there are now three CSAs in the Terre Haute area; see below for more details!
A central tenet of our new cooperative market will be to support our local farmers, and to source as much local goods from them as possible. But even before our storefront is open, there are other ways we can support our local farmers. One popular option is to join a CSA--a Community Supported Agriculture program. A CSA is a subscription service where you pay the farmer upfront for a seasonal share in the farm, and then you receive boxes of fresh produce throughout the season. It's a great way to help farmers have a stable income and increased planning capabilities, while also giving the consumer lovely fresh veggies, typically at lower-than-market rates.
All CSAs are now taking subscriptions for the 2009 growing season: Please click on the links or call the number to find out more about each CSA, and subscribe soon--these services fill up quick!

Greetings!
April marks the beginning of more than the gardening season; it's also the season of festivals and street fairs! Look for Terre Foods booths at many of the area's upcoming events, stop by to say hi, and get the very latest on how the project is going. Below you'll find a partial schedule of events where Terre Foods is scheduled to be--expect this list to expand as more events become available. And if you know of an event that you think Terre Foods should be involved in, drop us a line at info@terrefoods.org and let us know! The first event of the season we participated in--the White Violet Center Earth Day Celebration--was a huge success for us! I'd like to welcome all of our new list members who joined at this event. Besides an informational table, Terre Foods also staffed the grill station and a vegetarian salads booth. The salad booth alone took in nearly $500--a big thank you to everyone who donated a salad! We have not yet gotten our donation for working the grill station (food costs & cost-sharing have to be figured), but we do know that our sales broke records. I believe it, too, considering how busy we were! Go Terre Foods! |
Are you a member yet?
We are getting closer and closer to our goal of having a new store. As we make progress, a growing membership will become more important than ever. Membership is the heart and soul of a cooperative market--it's what makes a co-op a co-op, rather than just another grocery store. We will also need a large membership to demonstrate to prospective lenders that this community can and will support the store. Have you become a member yet? Please take a moment to visit our Membership Page to find out more about membership, its benefits, and how to apply.
