Did you catch Michael Pollan's Open Letter to the President-elect in a recent New York Times Magazine?  It's a wonderful piece discussing the current state of our agricultural system and recommendations for how to improve it.  Pollan makes specific recommendations for encouraging local food production and local food distribution (hey, those are our goals!).  And best yet?  President-elect Obama has read it!
  Lawn Signs
Now that the political season is over, is your lawn looking lonely without any political signs in it?  Come pick up a Terre Foods Lawn Sign and help our Membership Drive!  Our attractive signs feature our Terre Foods logo with the words "I'm a Member.  Are you?" on it.  These are a great way to get the word out about our work.  Contact Robyn Morton or Tammy Tintjer to arrange picking up a sign.  We request a $5 contribution per sign to help offset their cost.  Thank you!

Greetings!
There are several important things in this email, the main one being the announcement of our new website--please see below for more details.

We are also hosting a fundraiser Bake Sale this Saturday during the Collett Park Christmas Walk, and are looking for people to volunteer to make various goods to sell.  So far only one person has offered to donate baked goods, so we are sending out another call for baking volunteers.  We are looking for baked goods such as:  whole pies, loaves of sweet breads, cakes, muffins in packages of 6-12, cookies packaged by the dozen, and so on.  Most of the houses participating in the Christmas Walk will be giving away cookies, muffins, etc., to eat out of hand.  As such, we will instead sell large items to take home and serve, give as gifts, or freeze for later use during the holidays.  (See Article below for more information.)

If you are planning on bringing something to Robyn or Tammy's house to donate to the bake sale, please contact us so that we can plan appropriately and give you directions!  Our emails are robyn@terrefoods.org and tammy@terrefoods.org.

  Terre Foods launches new Website

small full color logoTerre Foods proudly announces the creation of a new website for our project and future business.  The website can be found at the same location as always:  www.terrefoods.org.  Go check it out--it's awesome!

This website, its content, emails, and other materials, is being generously hosted by NewTech Web Services.  Aaron King at NewTech has been invaluable in getting this website up and running, responding to my frequent questions and going out of his way to get it done right.  The site design was donated by Eldred Design, and it looks just wonderful!  With our new site, and new local host, we will have far more flexibility and functionality on our site, allowing us to do things we've been struggling with up till now (like including a "Sign up" box for our email list!).  The front page of the website also has an easy-update feature, so the website will be easier to keep current with our Terre Foods activities.  Check back often!  We are also working with students at Rose-Hulman to add additional functions to this website, including future membership tracking and account features, on down the road.

 Baked Goods Fundraiser!
Collett Park Christmas Walk, Nov. 22nd

Christmas CookiesTerre Foods will be selling baked goods during the Collett Park Christmas Walk on Saturday, November 24, from 9am-4pm.  We are looking for donations of baked goods!  Things that sell particularly well are items to serve for Holiday meals or items that make good Holiday gifts.  Also good sellers are items that freeze well, so that people can have ready-made baked goods all through the Holiday season.  Pies, tarts, cakes, packaged/wrapped cookies, and so on, make wonderful donations.  Be creative!  People love to buy homemade baked goods of all sorts!

Baked goods will be sold at Tammy Tintjer's and Robyn Morton's houses, both of whom will be participating in the Christmas Walk.  If you would like to donate a baked good to this fundraiser, please contact either of us via email, or drop off a donation at either of our houses on November 22nd.  The Christmas Walk is also a great time to pick up a Yard Sign for our Membership Drive (see sidebar, left, for more information).

And everyone come on out to the Christmas Walk.  It's a wonderful event that showcases our local craftspeople!

Terre Foods Dairy Class, Nov. 24th
  Clabber Girl Kitchens, 6-9 pm

This class is closed to new enrollment.  Thank you to everyone who contacted me about participating--I've had a great response.

If you had wanted to take this class and are disappointed that it is closed, or if the timing didn't work out for you, I will be offering the same class on Saturday, January 17th, from 9am-noon, at the Clabber Girl Kitchens.   Please contact me at robyn@terrefoods.org as soon as possible to register.  All course fees & materials will be the same (see below).  Thanks again for the response, and I'm looking forward to teaching this class!

All of these dairy products are easy to make, and require very little extra equipment or products than most people regularly have in their own homes.  There will be a free raffle at the end of class for people to win the products made in class!

Course Fee:  $5 for members; $10 for non-members.  Fees due at beginning of class.
Fee covers:  All course materials, including handouts, recipes, and Clabber Girl kitchen fees.
