WE DID IT!!!  Together, we have fought against oppression and dictatorship in the Arab World for the past 13 years, and in 2011, four dictators (Ben Ali, Mubarak, Ghaddafi, and Saleh) have been thrown out of office.  What an amazing year it has been.  Finally, citizens across the Arab World have stood up against their oppressors, and said enough is enough.  They took control of their own destiny, and fought for their freedom and dignity. 

Of course, there are still many challenges ahead and much work remains to be done.  Overthrowing a dictator is not easy, but building a genuine, stable, and lasting democracy is even harder.  During the past 13 years, CSID has organized over 200 conferences, seminars, and workshops throughout the Arab World, has trained over 8,000 activists on the principles of democracy and citizenship, and established a "Network of Democrats in the Arab World" (NDAW) that brings together hundreds of activists across the Arab World.  The work of CSID, of bridging the values and principles of Islam with that of democracy has never been as vital and as critical as it is today!

During 2011, CSID made a conscious decision to focus on Tunisia, because it was the country where the "Arab Awakening" started and it is the country where democracy has the most chances of success in the short term.  We opened a new office in Tunis, and organized three main conferences, four training workshops on citizenship, and over 20 lectures and seminars on the transition to democracy in Tunisia, in addition to several workshops in Egypt, Morocco, and Jordan.

As we come close to the end of 2011, I am writing to wish you a Happy, Blessed, and Prosperous New Year 2012 and to ask you to support CSID by becoming a member, renewing your membership, or making a small tax-deductible donation. 
Memberships and donations from individual supporters like you have been an important and critical source for funding and supporting CSID's activities and programs.  Today, they are as important as ever.
