Greetings!
We are almost half way through the year. How are you doing with respect to all of the goals you set for 2010? How would you rate your progress on a scale of 1 to 10?
The sad reality is that without a purposeful partnership to help us achieve our goals, we lose momentum on our goals shortly after we start. Even if we keep our momentum going, we often self-sabotage our efforts by poor time management or poor goal setting.
This month's issue addresses ways to succeed in what we set out to achieve. You are in for a reality check! Do the exercises and gain a new awareness of who you are and what you do. Then, make 2010 a year to remember!
To your success,
Janna

Time Management 101: Start With Reality
No one has enough time to do all the things they want to do. No one. Don't believe me? Take a few minutes to list all the things on your mind you want to do or have to do. Think about your list and consider the fact that your list will grow today and tomorrow and the next day. Your list is a snapshot, not a movie.
Great leaders know the importance of time, that every moment in time is unrepeatable.
Time doesn't stop for us to complete our lists and once it is gone we can never get it back. Yet, time is fair. Each of us get the same amount of time to work with - 24 hours a day, 168 hours a week. Do you know where your time goes? Are you investing or spending it?
Excellent time management starts with a harsh examination of reality. Today I'd like to challenge you to participate in an exercise I propose to nearly all of my clients interested in better time management.
-
Monitor your time in 10 minute increments for a two week period.
-
Summarize your findings. Create a list of categories that describe your daily activities.
-
Assess your results. What did you discover about yourself? What would you like to change? How does the way you spend your time align with your core values or top priorities?
Once you complete this exercise you will know your current reality. It is what it is. Then you can diagnose inefficiencies in your schedule and make changes to open up space for what really matters most to you. This could be the start of something amazing in your life. Are you ready for it?
If you try the exercise or have done it before, share your findings with us on the blog. We love to hear from you! |
Recipe for Success: Do the Right Things
Mastering the art of efficiency won't help you much if you are efficiently running in the wrong direction. Are you using your time to best suit your values, talents and resources?
The most successful people in the world are doing what they really enjoy, most of the time. They know themselves intimately, talk to themselves positively and live intentionally to turn their dreams into reality.
Take some time this week to thoughtfully consider the following:
-
What do you most enjoy doing? What have you done that gives you the most satisfaction in life?
- What about you makes you good at the things you do or in the roles you play?
-
How often do you tell yourself things like "I'm not good enough", "I can't do that", or "I don't have ______".? What might you do differently to overcome your own objections about yourself?
-
How would you manage your time if you only had six months to live? What would you do? Why not live this way now?
The recipe for success is to discover the right things for YOU to do and then do them. Today is the day to start living for tomorrow. Get to know yourself, get going and make an impact on your world. Your best may be yet to come.
What are you waiting for?
