Purposeful News
September 2008
Greetings!

Life is all about time.  It is one of the few things in life we can't replace.  What we do with our time effects our attitudes and even our health.

Living our best life is more than being efficient with our time, but about choosing the "best" rather than the "good" among all things begging for our time.

This month's issue will focus on what it takes to live an authentic and  balanced life of work, play and rest.  Get ready to get thinking...and planning.  Most importantly, remember that while it takes time and effort to change, great things do happen, one small step at a time.

Warmly,

Janna

Values, Time & Energy
168 hours.  No more, no less.  That's all the time any of us have each week to work, play, eat, sleep and interact with others.  How do you determine how you spend your time? Is the way you spend your time draining or energizing to you?

In the August issue I discussed the importance of core values, those 3-5 beliefs that are our "habits of the heart", and provided a tool to help you determine your values.  Core values are foundational to making the most out of a 168 hour week.

Once you know your core values, it is time to assess how well you are living them out each day at work or at home.

I challenge you this month to:
  1. Pick one core value and create a goal that will allow you to measure and observe how well you demonstrate this value by  acting on it.
  2. Identify what, if anything is standing in your way of living that value.
  3. Commit to reaching your goal!

Then, won't you email me to let me know how you did?  I'd love to hear about your progress!  Learn to make the most of each day.  It will be worth the effort.

NEXT ISSUE...Time management strategies for home or office.

How Are You Today?
Deciding to live intentionally is the first step towards achieving your full potential.  However, while many people sense that "there must be more to life", they often don't know where to start.

One way to get started is to take inventory of your life as it is, by rating each major area of your life (career, family, recreation, financial, etc.) on a scale of 1 to 10 (1=least, 10=most) as to how satisfied you are in each area.  What would a perfect "10" like in each area of your life?

Once you take inventory, take charge by writing down three baby steps toward achieving your perfect vision in your lowest rated area.  Then, intentionally take action on your goals and watch your "perfect 10" become reality, one baby step at a time.
