Pilot Shop logo
Greetings!

Spring seems to be here if the past few days is anything to go by and now that the evenings are longer we have plenty of time to enjoy our flying.

Don't forget to make sure your charts are up to date and to think about updating your GPS database or your navigation software.
New opening hours

Our opening hours are changing with immedite effect. In the future we will be open Monday - Friday from 10:30 to 17:30, Saturdays from 10:30 to 16:00. We will be closed on Sundays and public holidays.
New suction mount for the Garmin 695
 695 suction mount
Although the GPS Suction Mount we already sell has proved adequate for the increased weight of the Garmin 695 the manufacturer has now produced a special version for the 695, featuring two suction pads for greater stability.
Camera suction mount

camera mount 1While we are on the subject of suction mounts have you ever tried holding your camcorder steady in-flight to record that perfect landing? Our new Camera Suction Mount fits virtually all video and still cameras, clamping the to the windscreen to eliminate camera shake.

Latest changes to the new Special Rules Zones
Schiphol SRZ

The saga continues - thanks to the intervention of AOPA and KNVVL the new SRZs have been relaxed a little. There is now a discussion regarding the VFR chart Netherlands - it is possible this will be re-issued very shortly - yet more expense and aggravation for pilots caused by people who should know better.

With effect from April 25th 2009, a new special rules zone Schiphol is established to reduce traffic with activated mode S transponder under the Schiphol TMA 1. The SRZ Schiphol is comprised of the airspace below Schiphol TMA 1, excluding the Rotterdam CTR, Schiphol CTRs, North Sea Area Amsterdam, SRZ Hilversum and SRZ Lelystad. The vertical limits are from GND to 1500 ft AMSL and the SRZ Schiphol is active H24.
Motorised VFR traffic below 1200 ft AMSL must switch the mode S transponder to the standby mode.
Motorised VFR traffic without mode S transponder is allowed below 1200 ft AMSL.
The airspace between 1200 ft AMSL and 1500 ft AMSL is closed for all motorised VFR traffic, except traffic mentioned below. This traffic shall activate the mode S transponder and shall monitor Amsterdam Information 124.300 MHz. Exempted from the rules above are:
Coast guard, environmental control, helicopter emergency medical, pilotage, pipeline inspection, police, search and rescue flights. These flights have access to the SRZ Schiphol with active mode S transponder and above 1200 ft AMSL shall monitor Amsterdam Information 124.300 MHz.
Military flights. These flights have access to the SRZ Schiphol with active mode S transponder.
Commercial VFR traffic between 1200 ft AMSL and 1500 ft AMSL after permission from the Operational Helpdesk (PPR). These flights shall activate the mode S transponder and shall monitor Amsterdam Information 124.300 MHz.
Traffic to/from Rotterdam Airport on the HOTEL Arrival/Departure with the mode S transponder activated during the complete procedure.
Non-motorised VFR traffic without mode S transponder has no restrictions within the SRZ Schiphol.
2.1  Remarks concerning the use of the SRZ Schiphol:
Avoid the airspace below Schiphol TMA 1. If necessary to use this area it is recommended to plan and execute the flight circumnavigating the lateral limits of the Schiphol CTRs as wide as possible.
All motorised VFR traffic in the SRZ Schiphol is advised to contact and give position report to Amsterdam Information 124.300 MHz.
The published procedures and circuits for related aerodromes remain valid and unchanged.
The Inspectorate announces strict enforcement of the regulations regarding airspace infringements.
2.2  Clarification of the rules mentioned above:
IFR flights are not influenced by the SRZ Schiphol.
Commercial VFR flights intending to fly between 1200 ft AMSL and 1500 ft AMSL in the SRZ Schiphol shall request approval from the Operational Helpdesk before commencing the flight. During the flight phase in the SRZ Schiphol below 1200 ft AMSL, the mode S transponder is set on standby. During the flight phase in the SRZ Schiphol above 1200 ft AMSL, and outside the SRZ Schiphol, the mode S transponder is set on active (ALT).
Leisure VFR flights with motorised aircraft shall remain below 1200 ft AMSL in the SRZ Schiphol. During this phase of the flight the mode S transponder is set on standby. Outside the SRZ Schiphol the mode S transponder is set on active (ALT).
VFR flights along the coast shall remain below 1200 ft AMSL and set the mode S transponder on standby. Additionally, pilots are advised to fly northbound over land, southbound over sea and to activate the landing lights during this phase of the flight.
VFR flights not required to use a mode S transponder above 1200 ft AMSL (e.g. gliders and balloons) are not influenced by the SRZ Schiphol. These flights should have the mode S transponder (if available) set on standby during the flight phase in the SRZ Schiphol.
The SRZ Schiphol establishes a layer of 300 ft between 1200 ft AMSL and 1500 ft AMSL underneath Schiphol TMA 1 in which only known motorised VFR traffic is present. This layer creates a buffer for ACAS and infringement mitigation, while minimising possible overload problems for Schiphol Approach.

Werken bij The Pilot Shop

Be safe up there.
