Coming Together by Shelly Sargent
As I sit here savouring my 2nd cup of coffee, its snowing hard in Caledon again and we're poised to enjoy yet ANOTHER impromptu "holiday" from school.
Its reached the point that we now measure our lives in "snow days". Sigh...
If I mull over the events of the past month, I find myself amazed at what you can accomplish if you really need to! In February, in addition to the countless snow days and usual array of last minute items, we also attended the screening of Cedar Mains Farm: A Forgotten Landscape an independent film by documentary flimmaker and historian Mark Magro. Then we assisted at Hospice Caledon's 'Afternoon of Indulgence' on February 23rd and while helping with announcements and audio set up, we had the opportunity to meet quite a few of the area's business owners and services, while at the same time supporting a truly worthy cause. We want to congratulate Hospice Caledon and all their volunteers on a truly remarkable event.
On a personal note, this month had us nursing a child with pneumonia, and saw the sudden loss of a beloved family dog. Squeeze in the usual round of Public Service Announcments, contests, scripts, meetings and events and you've got the makings of a very busy month!
Thank heavens for the portable laptop computer and call forwarding! But the upshot of all that "busy-ness" was a distinct feeling that things are starting to "gel" - that we are beginning to find our niche.
For one thing, we've been blessed this month in finding quite a few wonderful volunteers from the area. These very talented people are assisting us with everything from production and filing to reporting and voice over work. We're happy that we're able to offer some radio broadcasting experience to these volunteers, but - especially in these early days - we're truly grateful for the extra hands those volunteers bring.
It has been very exciting to begin to recognize the sheer depth of talent that exists in our community, too. And some of this talent is going to be gracing the airwaves very soon!
New Shows: Our broadcast schedule will soon be featuring 4 brand new shows, with several more in the works. Details about the shows is outlined below in "Showing" Off.
March and April Events: Family Transition Place's "Reel Cinema for a Real Cause" is being held from March 20-22, at Empire Theatre - Bolton. This is a 3 day celebration of film's power to inspire change through entertainment, and proceeds support Family Transition Place's efforts to make respect the norm - not the exception - in our homes, our schools and our community. For tickets or info, visit Reel Cinema For A Real Cause
The 2008 Business Achievement Awards will take place on March 17th at the Royal Ambassador Banquet and Convention Centre. Tickets are $100 per person. Contact the Chamber to reserve your spot!
Reserve your spot at the 2008 Caledon Home Show: This local home and lifestyle show is a very popular community event featuring approximately 80 vendors. The Show attracts 4000 - 5000 visitors from all of Caledon and the surrounding areas including Orangeville, Tottenham, Woodbridge, Brampton, Shelburne and Nobleton. Caledon continues to be one of the fastest growing residential areas and offers an excellent marketing opportunity for your business.
As the organizer, Caledon Chamber of Commerce strives to offer a wide selection of products and services available locally. Exhibitors may sell directly from their booths, offer draw prizes to build a contact list and develop a connection with a potential customer right on the spot. And that's just a snapshot of the next two months right now - I'm sure I'll be updating you very shortly!
So, all in all, we managed to pack a lot into the year's shortest month. And now - although I'm sure we haven't seen the end of the end of slippery driveways and icy windshields - we're "Marching" towards spring, with all the promise of growth and vitality that it always brings.
Now, where did I store my rubber rain boots...?

SuperCities Walk For MS
Rick and I know 2 people with MS - both bright, vibrant women, both parents. MS attacks the protective covering - myelin - of the brain and spinal cord. It causes vision disturbances, extreme fatigue, loss of balance, stiffness of muscles, speech problems, bladder and bowel problems, short-term memory problems, partial or complete paralysis. We have 2 children ourselves - and I can't imagine trying to raise a family while dealing with those symptoms. Research is the key to finding a cure for this debilitating disease, and raising money is the key to funding research! RADIO CALEDON and its team THE "B" TEAM will be doing the 5 km walk on April 13th. We see this as a great opportunity to support a very worthy cause, introduce our rapidly growing little Radio Caledon Team to each other, and raise community awareness - all at the same time. We invite you to support us with an online pledge! You can visit our team fundraising page by clicking HERE. Thanks for your support!

Watch for our next issue, featuring information on where we'll be in the next few months as well as the next round of programming additions and a bit of info on our ongoing quest to increase the signal strength/coverage of The "B"! Have a great week!
