Trap System for Red Palm Weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and Other Rhynchophosus Species
| Red Palm Weevil Trapping system | The Red Palm Weevil (RPW) is an economically important tissue boring pest of date palm in many parts of the world. Infested palms must be removed. As a prevenetative measure all palms in infested areas are sprayed to run off with a variety of insecticides. Because of the environmental pollution and economic costs of continuous insecticide spraying, more environmentally and economically acceptable alternatives are being sought.
Recent success with the male-produced aggregation pheromone has made the implementation of pheromone-based monitoring and trapping of this weevil possible for the management of this pest.
A RPW pheromone based monitoring and trapping system is manufactured by Alpha Scents that is enjoying wide acceptance. It is available immediately. For details contact Dr. Darek Czokajlo at 971-998-8248.
