Mountlake Terrace Dedicates "Hawk Way"

Snohomish County Councilmember Dave Gossett joined Mountlake Terrace Mayor Jerry Smith, Councilmember Seaun Richards, and hundreds of students and residents to celebrate the naming of "Hawk Way" on Wednesday, September 26th.

Mountlake Terrace High School was built on the current site in the 1960's and rebuilt in the 1990's. The entry way to the high school has always been a numbered road.

"Earlier this year Russ Heagle approached the Mountlake Terrace Council about renaming the road for the Mountlake Terrace mascot, the Hawks," said Gossett. "Mayor Smith and the Council started to work on getting it done."

The ceremony included the student body making a procession behind a truck carrying the Associated Student Body (ASB) officers and a copy of the "Hawk Way" sign. Once the sign arrived at the podium the Mountlake Terrace High School Choir sang the Star Spangled Banner. The national anthem was followed by the Mountlake Terrace High Band playing the school fight song. After a few comments from the podium the crowd counted down from 10 to zero and the sign was unveiled renaming the street to the cheers of onlookers.

"I'm a Mountlake Terrace High School graduate and actually started my political activity there," said Gossett, who was ASB President in the 1968-69 school year. "It was great to see everyone so excited about this recognition of the Mountlake Terrace Hawks."

2013 Budget Presented to Council

Today the Snohomish County Executive submitted to the County Council his recommendations for the 2013 Budget. Over the course of the following two months those recommendations will be reviewed by the Council and the public.

"I look forward to working with the Executive, the other Councilmembers, and the other elected officials on next year's budget," said Snohomish County Councilmember Dave Gossett. "Despite the fiscal challenges we have faced over the last 5 years our employees have continued to work hard to provide services to our residents."

The Council budget process this year will be similar to the format used during the 2012 Budget. There will be numerous opportunities for public input.

The Council will hold a public forum in the Jackson Board Room on October 9th at 6:30 pm on the eighth floor of the Robert J. Drewel Building (RJD) at the county campus in Everett. Budget hearings will take place on October 31st at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm. Again both hearings will take place on the eighth floor of the RJD Building.

"I believe that public involvement is essential to making good budget decisions," said Gossett. "In years past the Council public meetings have proven to provide valuable information about priorities, helping us adopt fiscally responsible budgets while maintaining the level of service our citizen's desire."

Information about the budget will be posted on the county website http://www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/ early next week.
