Evergreen State Fair - Hungry for Fun?

The Evergreen State Fair kicks off on Thursday, August 25, 2011. This year at the Opening Ceremony the Snohomish County Council will recognize Gerry Andal by declaring August 25th Gerry Andal Day.

"Gerry Andal was very involved in improving this community," said Councilmember Dave Gossett. "He was constantly contributing time and money to help others. And he was a long-time supporter and friend of the Fair."

Gerry Andal will also be honored at a rodeo ceremony on Saturday, September 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

The theme for the 2011 Fair is "Hungry For Fun?" Tickets to grandstand concerts, auto races, fair gate admission, rodeo and carnival ride wristbands are available for purchase online, allowing individuals to choose their own premium reserved seats and print tickets at home for Evergreen State Fair events.

All online tickets are sold through http://www.evergreenfair.org/

"The Evergreen State Fair has something for everyone. We'll have great musical acts to listen to and thrilling races to watch," said Gossett. "You can walk the fairways and sample the wide array of great food served up by fair vendors. And of course be sure to take in the livestock and display exhibits."

Take Community Transit to the Fair

Community Transit will be providing bus service to the Evergreen State Fair on routes 270, 271 and 275. All three will serve a special stop near the west entrance of the Evergreen State Fair as usual this year. Due to budget cuts, Community Transit no longer operates on Sundays or major holidays. As a result, there will be no bus service to the Fair on Sundays or on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5.

Routes 270, 271 and 275 provide service between Everett and Monroe every 30 to 60 minutes from early morning before the Fair opens until after 10 p.m. weekdays. On Saturdays, the last trip westbound from the fairgrounds to Everett leaves at 7:38 p.m. and the last trip eastbound to Monroe, Sultan and Gold Bar leaves at 9:25 p.m. Full schedules for each route are available in Bus Plus books onboard buses, or online at http://www.commtrans.org/.

Free parking is available at Everett Station and the Snohomish and Gold Bar park & rides. Residents from throughout Snohomish County can catch a bus from other communities to Everett Station, and transfer to Routes 270, 271 or 275. If you are planning to transfer, the best value is to use an ORCA card, which will carry the value of your first trip on subsequent buses for up to two hours. Pleas e note that Community Transit no longer issues paper transfers, so cash-paying customers will need to pay full fare for each bus they board. ORCA cards may be purchased online at http://www.orcacard.com/ERG-Seattle/p1_001.do and at Everett Station.

"Community Transit is a great way to get to the Fair," said Councilmember Gossett. "It's environmentally friendly and very convenient."

The Fair runs Aug. 25-Sept. 5.

Snohomish County Comprehensive Parks Plan Update

The Snohomish County Parks Department and the County Recreation & Parks Advisory Board are working to update the 6 year parks improvement plan. Citizens and user groups are invited to provide input regarding future capital improvement projects including proposals for parkland acquisition, renovation of older park facilities and new park development. A series of public meetings will be held over the coming weeks.

"We've done a great job of improving our park system in the last few years," noted Councilmember Gossett. "In my area we've opened Willis Tucker Community Park, Martha Lake Airfield Park, and just broke ground on Tambark Creek Park. But we need to continue working for the future."

When completed, the updated plan will provide direction to the department as it sites new facilities, provides recreation programs and manages existing parks. Three meetings will be held on the following dates and different locations around the county:

August 15

6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Evergreen State Fairgrounds Long House

14405 179th Ave SE, Monroe

August 23

6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Arlington High School Commons

18821 Crown Ridge Blvd., Arlington

September 8

6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Willis Tucker Park Community Activity Center

6705 Puget Park Drive, Snohomish

Residents unable to attend one of the meetings may submit feedback at sharon.swan@co.snohomish.wa.usor by mail to:

Snohomish County Parks & Recreation

Comp. Plan Update

6705 Puget Park Drive

Snohomish, WA 98296

"I really encourage people to take the time and tell us what they want and value in the park system," said Gossett. "We want to make sure we continue to serve the needs of our citizens."
