Council Approves Habitat Restoration
On Wednesday the Council approved a $74,998 federal grant agreement for habitat restoration for North Creek.
"North Creek is crucial habitat for salmon," said Councilmember Dave Gossett. "This grant provides a great opportunity to improve our urban environment."
The project will take place along 700 feet of North Creek on a 4 acre site near 196th St SW. This will be the largest contiguous stretch of stream restoration on North Creek.
"Clearwater School and Clearwater Commons own the property and are working with the county," noted Gossett. "Community volunteers from both will be involved in planting, monitoring, and educational activities to promote salmon recovery."
Snohomish County will provide a 50% match to the federal grant to complete funding of the project.

County and Schools Cooperate to Keep Public Informed
Snohomish County and the Snohomish School District are cooperating to place an electronic message board at Glacier Peak High School.
"People will be able to easily get information about programs at Willis Tucker Park and activities at the school," said Councilmember Gossett.
Snohomish County will pay 1/3 of the cost up to a maximum of $10,000. The school district will pay the rest of the cost.
School announcements will get priority during the school year and in August before school starts. The county will receive 30% of the message board space during that period. During the summer months the county's share of the use will rise to 70%.
"By working together we can provide community service at lower cost to the taxpayers," said Gossett.
