Gossett to attend National Night Out Aug. 4 at McCollumPark

Councilmember Dave Gossett will be joining his neighbors to learn more about the latest in crime prevention during this year's National Night Out Against Crime event, being held Tuesday, August 4, at McCollum Park.

"National Night Out is a great opportunity for people to come together and have fun while promoting public safety," said Councilmember Gossett. "It's a chance to send a very clear message that neighborhood block watch and community groups are working hand in hand with the Sheriff's Office and local Police Departments to reduce crime in our county."

This year's event features the Snohomish county Fire Marshal's new dog "Topper," who will demonstrate his fire investigation skills.  Music on the main stage will be provided by The Resonaters.  Children can also meet the Always Ready "Ready Rex" and Community Transit's "Oxygene."

"This is an excellent opportunity to get to know your neighbors and discuss the quality of life issues that affect your neighborhoods, such as crime, drugs, graffiti, and other issues", said Gossett.  "I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity."

The event hosted at McCollum Park is made possible through partnerships with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, Mill Creek Police Department, Farmer's Insurance, SnoCope Federal Credit Union, Mill Creek Lion's Club and others.

Council Establishes  Task Force  on  Economic Development

The County Council recently voted to establish an Economic Task Force as part of its ongoing efforts to promote economic growth.

"Economic growth is always important," said Councilmember Dave Gossett. "But the current recession makes it absolutely crucial that the county receives the best advice possible on how to create and maintain jobs."

The purpose of the Economic Task Force is to advise the county on a wide range of economic matters including changes to the county code, attracting new businesses, and growing the businesses that are now in the county.

"While all of the county's businesses are important there is no question that a strong aerospace sector is vital," said Gossett. "I'm particularly interested in recommendations regarding actions the county can take to support aerospace."

The Task Force will include 17 members. Membership will include two members of the County Council and representatives of the business community (including aerospace and local chambers of commerce), labor, education, and cities.

"Having a good mix of private and public sector representatives is essential to success," noted Gossett.

The Task Force will provide its recommendations on or before the end of next March.
