Dear Friends of MassBible,
Life has surely been interesting here at MassBible! The response to our Burn One, Give Two Campaign was truly overwhelming with over $3,000 donated from 28 states, England, Wales, and Canada. And that was without Rev. Jones actually burning any! Many more were poised to give should his action have gone forward.
You can read some of the press and e-mail responses we've had here and also see the grant recipients to date. We will keep updating that page as more Qur'ans are given.
Although we received lots of positive support for this effort, we also had our detractors. There were some common themes in our negative mail, and I have dealt with one of them in this blog post today. In case you missed the original press release, it appears below.One-hundred percent of all donations given through the campaign page will go toward the donation of Qur'ans. If you appreciate what we are doing and would like to support us more generally, you can donate or find out more about MassBible membership in the links in the left-hand bar.
Thank you so much for your overwhelming
support...your partnership and donations at all levels enable us to make
this sort of response quickly and without reservation. In the Spirit of Christ, Anne |
They Burn One, We Give Two!
Rev. Terry Jones of the Dove Outreach Center in Gainesville, FL intends to burn the Qur'an on Sept. 11 in an act of hatred against Muslims and the Islamic Faith. We join with thousands of religious leaders across the country to renounce this act and affirm those like General Petraeus who warn that such an act could cost innocent lives.
Lest the culture believe that Rev. Jones' position represents that of all Christians, MassBible is prepared to take a counter action. For 201 years we have given the Bible to those without access. In response to Rev. Jones despicable act, we are prepared to give two Qur'ans for every one that Rev. Jones burns.
They will go to prisons, to hospitals, to shelters, or to any place where there are Muslims without access to their sacred text. This in no way diminishes our belief in the Bible as the Word of God. On the contrary, it is acting on the command within its pages to love our neighbors as ourselves (Lev. 19:18) and to do unto others as we would have done unto us. (Matt. 7:12).
We can supply two Qur'ans for $25. If you would support us in this, please send a check marked "Two for one" or click here to donate online. You may also call us at 617-969-9404 to make a donation by credit card.
Won't you stand with us and take a stand against hate?
