Greetings!
Our normally quiet January, wasn't. We had a great time though.
Of all the Cobra events that are scheduled for this 50th Anniversary 2012, we're starting to get a feel for which will be the most exciting. We share our observations with you below.
No your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. That's really a scaled down Cobra Daytona Coupe on a go-kart chassis. See below what this beauty brought at the Scottsdale auctions!
And as promised, we share more of what we're doing with you below, even if it's not directly related to Cobras.

Bondurant-autographed Museum Posters
You asked if we could get Bob's autograph, so we did!
|

In a recent newsletter we showcased the annual Shelby American Museum poster with artwork depicting Bondurant's Cobra roadster Championship wins in 1965.
A newsletter recipient requested we arrange for Bob's autograph on a few. So we did, and at the same time Bob autographed the Museum's 2010 poster which features an impressive black & white photo of Bondurant driving his Cobra in a GT race at Riverside in 1963.
We have 10 posters of each. When you order here, there will be an option to choose the autographed posters. Note: If the option for Bob's autograph does not appear, then we are sold out of the autographed versions of the poster.

The Greatest Form of Flattery
"Cute" works with this impressive replica and "to-scale" drivers
|
We had a great time at Scottsdale during auction week last month. The Shelby American seminar gave us a chance to catch up with friends like Phil Remington (seen above left), Chuck Cantwell and Rick Kopec. And the autograph session was one to remember!
At the auctions, the energy was palpable and we were honored with the best flattery of all, a Daytona Coupe go-kart. I normally shy away from the word cute, but add a couple of young kids (ages 4 and 7) in Cobra driving suits to the mix and this had cute written all over it, in a good way. Obviously we weren't the only ones to be impressed... the car sold for $35,000! (kids not included). It was a fun time.

Another Request
You've requested we offer our trailer accessories, w/o the trailer (-:
|
Over the last year we've received several requests to offer our high-quality trailer accessories without requiring the purchase of a trailer! We must admit we are ourselves smitten with the quality of the tie-downs, axle straps, tarp straps and battery chargers we offer. Check out here the numerous types and lengths of straps we offer.
For the straps we've chosen different colors for the different lengths so you can easily grab the strap you need without having to measure their lengths each time.
These CTEK battery chargers are the best we've ever used. We use them on all of our cars and our trailer. We share the details here of why we think so highly of them.

The Hottest Cobra Events for 2012
How we see the events shaping up for this 50th year
|
With this year being the 50th Anniversary of the Cobra there are a lot of events planned. We've been trying to monitor and gauge which will be the "biggies" (e.g. the best Shelby American personnel and car turn-outs. The four that seem to be rising to the top are (in date order):
- Amelia Island Concours Mar 9-11th. No matter what this Concours' is featuring, it's always on our "can't miss" list. For the Cobras this year I'll be on the panel Friday for the Ferrari vs. Cobra, The Battle for the World Championship for Sports Cars Seminar. There will also be a nice selection of Cobras at the Concours'.
- Next comes the Ford-Shelby-Cobra Reunion at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, CA April 19th thru 21st. There's not a lot of public information out on this event yet but what we're seeing behind the scenes is impressive. There will be a huge gathering of ex-Shelby American employees (it's autograph time!) and a large gathering of Cobras. There will be an Aerovault trailer at the entrance to the museum where we'll have a tent/table with product (including those impressive Registries) and a space for my Coupe.
- Even though we can't make it due to a conflict with Le Mans, the SAAC convention (Shelby American Automobile Club) has big plans this year. It'll take place at Watkins Glen on June 7-9th. Don't miss it!

550-03 Article to Hit Stands Soon
Four years of following its restoration culminates in feature Porsche article
|
In the last newsletter we mentioned, not related to Cobras, a final photo shoot we had scheduled for January of a very important piece of automotive history. With the article wrapped up and the next issue of Excellence magazine going to print, we can now share the car is the third Porsche 550 built (they were only later named Spyders), owned by Jerry Seinfeld.
As you can see from these photos, it had a unique shape/design. Look for this special 200th issue of Excellence magazine on newsstands in about a month (it'll be the one with the car, and Jerry, on the cover). |
|
Have a good February!
We hope to see you somewhere soon (maybe Amelia or Sebring in March?), and keep those requests coming in.
All the best,
