BRE Datsun Issue: #020January 9, 2012

Greetings!

We're not entirely sold on the concept of New Year's Resolutions (if it's worth doing, why wait?) but we thought one was especially appropriate at this time... and that is to send out newsletters more often.  We know too much time has passed when we receive mails from people asking if they've dropped off our distribution list as they haven't received an update in so long.  We agree, that's too long.

And if we sent them out more often, we'd share more details about what we're doing as there wouldn't be so much news to report that we have to edit it down to fit.

Wish us the best with our goal... and here's our first newsletter of 2012 (just one month after the last one was sent out!)

2012 Shelby American Calendar
We're going to mark the days to when the next newsletter should go out with this attention-getting 2012 calendar

2012 Shelby American CalendarWhile working with Colin Comer to offer his "Fifty Years of Shelby Cobras" book (of which we're receiving a new shipment Wed), we found out he also created a handsome calendar for 2012.  It's extremely well-rounded with numerous images of various Cobra roadsters and Shebly Mustang variants. February features the Cobra Daytona Coupe.  It'll keep you excited all year long!

As we're already into 2012, we're offering this large 12"x12" calendar here, with free shipping at $13.95.  Peter Brock's autograph is an additional option which can be selected when ordering (wonder which month he'll choose to sign?)
Will we see you next Thur in Scottsdale?
"World of Shelby" Seminar is filling fast - and for good reason
We can't ever remember this illustrious group of Shelby men coming together for a seminar before:  Phil Remington, Chuck Cantwell, Bob Bondurant and Peter Brock. In addition to talk of the good ole days, these gentlemen will be joined by Colin Comer, Rick Kopec (director of SAAC (Shelby American Automotive Club) and John Luft (president of Shelby American) to discuss the future collectability  of Shelby American automobiles.

The seminar is being held at the Penske museum in Scottsdale.  There's no charge but seating is limited to about 100-150 people we're told. Don't wait.  Reserve your spot here.
Details of our January
You've requested more details on how we're spending our days
Even though we post our schedule on our website, we don't get into many details.  You've asked us to share more of what we're doing with you, even if it's not directly related to Cobras and Shelby American.  So here goes:
  • CES - One of the advantages of our new location near Vegas is that cool conventions are just 20 minutes away.  This week we'll spend a day at CES (Consumer Electronics Show).  We have some intriguing automotive meetings scheduled and Gayle is looking forward to seeing some old friends of hers in the computer industry.
  • SCORE - next week is the first off-road race of the season.  We'll attend a sneak preview of a new Trophy Truck on Thu and then cover the race Sat and Sun.
  • A rare spyder - As part of our automotive journalism work, somewhere within the above activities, we'll be photographing a historically significant, early '50s Porsche Spyder.  We've been documenting the restoration of this unique car for 4 years (Brock seen here with master restoration artist, Joey Caviglieri, looking at the best looking Spyder floor pan you'll ever see).  Along with its handlers, we'll take it out to a location reminiscent of where it originally raced for a final shoot.  We'll let you know when this cover story is ready to hit the stands.
  • A trip to WA - Sometime before January is over, we'll be back in WA State to 1) pick up a just-finished Aerovault trailer from our builder for its new owner in CA, 2) load up the majority of our remaining belongings to move them to NV and 3) supervise the loading of our two Datsuns for commercial transport to NV(one is Datzilla - a highly modified Datsun 510 with a V8 Chevy engine and the other is the original, unrestored BRE Datsun 510 Baja car Brock drove in the 1969 Mexican 1000 race).   Our Brock Coupe was of course driven to NV many months ago so we could enjoy it as much as possible... and we have!
  • Within the office it appears Gayle has found the new inventory, shipping, all-around guy she's been looking for.  She will be investing a fair amount of her time in January working with him.
  • Upcoming editorial - Brock writes a monthly editorial in Classic Motorsports magazine.  Just filed for the next issue is his take on the situation of an aging car collector community, and how to ensure our beloved cars survive past us!
That's January!
We hope you enjoy our new format with more frequent news.

All the best,
Gayle & Peter Brock
