Welcome to "Conservation in Your Community," our tool to keep you regularly informed of the Berks County Conservancy's conservation projects in your backyard.  We work hard every day to help keep Berks a special place to live and expect that you'll enjoy learning more about this important work through Enews.

Last Child in the Woods is the first book to bring together a new and growing body of research indicating that direct exposure to nature is essential for the physical and emotional health of children and adults. Louv's message has started an international back-to-nature campaign. His book and lecture will change the way you think about our future and the future of children.

Nature in Berks Photo Contest
We're looking for inspiring, spectacular nature photography that represents the wildlife and landscape, human involvement or recreational opportunities in Berks County.
 
The Berks County Conservancy 2009 Nature in Berks Photo Contest is open to all photographers and will be organized into four divisions:
Division 1: Grades K-4
Division 2: Grades 5-8
Division 3: Grades 9-12
Division 4: Adult (over 18 years old)

Over $1,500 worth of prizes will be awarded. The top three photographs in each category will be put on display at our Evening with Richard Louv lecture on March 24, 2009 at the RACC Miller Center for the Arts.
Contest Prizes Sponsored by Body Zone.
 
Contest Rules
1. The Berks County Conservancy invites all Berks County residents and school students to submit up to three color or black & white photographs depicting a scene in nature.
2. Your photo must depict a scene within Berks County.
3. The contest is open to all skill levels. Photos will be judged on a wide range of criteria, including creativity, originality and composition. Photos become the property of the Berks County Conservancy for nonprofit use.

Contest Deadline
Email your photos to kim.lewis@berks-conservancy.org by February 28, 2009. We cannot accept photos larger than 2 MB in size. Please include name, address and phone number along with your grade and school district if applicable.
